Default Rev limit

I have seen people in forums posting that bikes are twisting cranks because of over reving. My bike has a rev limit of 5500 rpm. Does hitting the rev limiter cause this. If the twin cam cant handle 5500 rpm the motor company needs to set the limit lower. I know the limiter can be raised but just a stock engine should be able to handle the revs set by the manufacturer. Does this seem obvious to everyone or is it just me. I dont meam for a sustained period but just hitting 5500 rpm should not twist a crank that was designed to hit 5500 rpm. Any thoughts on this.

You will find on this forum that there is a school of thought that you shouldn't rev over 4,000 RPM............shoot I ride like a bat out of h... and never had a problem...

I think I might have hit 4500rpm twice. No need for it the way I ride

Now its been since 1999, but if I remember correctly my limiter was reset at 6500, TC 88, with a programmable ignition. also high flow pipes, air cleaner, ect. Still running like a bear, and had mild cam installed in 2005. Couldn't ask for more. Push the button and boom your off, twist the throttle and away you go!
