Default Tranny Noises 09 softail

Hi:
This is my first time with question of forumn so go easy on me. I have an 2009 FLSTC and it has roughly 1500 miles on it and I noticed when I was driving a rotory type noise coming from tranny I think. It almost sounds like a loose chain or water running. As soon as I pull in the clutch the noise stops. Is this normal for the tranny to make this noise. I had my 1000 mile service done on it. Thanks and any input would be great.

Hey there oneeye, on the six speed tranny fifth gear is straight cut rather than helical and makes quite a bit of annoying racket. First and second are also straight cut gears I believe but not as noisy on my scooter. Could that possibly be what you are hearing? Shift from fifth to sixth and see if you notice a decrease in the noise. The windshield can also reflect a bit of engine sound towards the rider.

Yeah, my fifth gear sounds like chain noise sometimes but it's just gear whine.
