Oh oh, better park the bike and check that at once, Unclepsycho. If you do the conversion we are here to guide you.

I wonder about the expensive warentee I paid for, but then, I would rather just do it myself than to let the dealer get in there and keep the bike for 6 months and do what ever they do!

I'll go load 'er up on the lift and take a peek.

The sound I can hear is best described, as a "whirr" along with a "rattle" (like lifters, only near the cam chain area of the motor).....this is most definately RPM related.

Well, thats wierd...
I went out to the bike, started it up to put it on the lift, and it ran perfect... no noises of any kind. I let it warm up etc... sounded fine. I musta been hearing things or something???

I will go for a ride tomorrow and see what happens

I am starting to like the sound of the gear drive upgrades. that would make another fine tech article for AIM!

Scott the outside guide is real easy to check will give you a idea how the inside is wearing.
Just pull of the cover.
Wear depends on how rough the chain is so if the outside is wearing you can bet the inside is worse.
The inside is a little harder to see, but you can see inside with a real small dental mirror.
One of the other internet groups had a set of pullers that they rented out.
One guy bought them and then just passed them around to help pay the cost.
That might be a nice deal here.
I have done mine without the pullers but next time want the right tools.

Thanks guys,
I will go ahead and pull the cover.... then I know. It seems wierd for it to run so quiet after I 'thought' I heard quite a lot of noise. I was on the road a long time

Hi Guys,

I am just starting to think about my winter project. It is Sept. now. In Mn,,,, almost winter. ;-( I see the starting date on this is Oct 07. Does anyone know if Chris M. did a project on the cam change. Thinking of doing a 95 upgrade on my 03 Softail Springer.
It would be a good time to change over to gear drive. Next nice weekend I will do a day trip to S&S. They are about 150 miles away. Gives me a good reason to shop. ;-) Have a great day!!!!!
