Default Changing plugs, wires, etc...

I'm creeping up on 10K miles on the bike and was wondering if anyone recommended changing wires, plugs, etc at that time? Now that I finally have my tools back I can pull the plugs and check them...something has needed to be done. I know normally plugs and wires wouldn't be changed that soon.

As I posted in another post here some time ago I'm having major idle issues. From a "cold" start, I would say probably 6-7 out of every 10 starts it idles high and if I had a tach (there is one coming in the future) I could say what it is idling at. If I had to guess I would say it probably holds steady at 2800 to 3000 RPM, maybe even a little higher. It's enough to make you anyone cringe especially on a cold engine. Once I get it warm, kill it and restart it it will kick down to a "normal" idle.

My thought is to change the TPS, plugs and wires to see if that helps any. I would like to automatically default my Fuelpak (just because I've never been happy with the dang thing), but it's holding it programming and has been checked on numerous occasions just to make sure.

Thanks for any thoughts, ideas or reccomendations.

High there...
in another thread... I remember something similar, and the solution was the TPS. I remember this because my Wifes Jeep did the same thing... start up and it rev's way high. The computer code that it threw blamed the injectors, but I switched around the injectors and it threw the same 3 injector codes. After some thought, I just changed the TPS cuz that's what tells the injectors how much gas to spray. Problem went away imediately and never happened again.
I know it aint a bike, but it is a fuel injected motor with all the same componants. The guy that we were helping then on that other thread reported back that he replaced his TPS and it was the correct 'fix' for his bike.

Hope This helps.

Plugs and or wires will not make a high idle. Something else is happening!

street bob- I understand plugs and wires won't make a high idle; my thought process is though if I basically change out everything that is involved in the firing process along with the TPS that should fix the problem.

uncle- you're right it was me...I forgot all about that thread. No I didn't get it fixed then. Belay my last...

Hey no worries... that was just a memory test... Did I win anything??
I know how time can fly by fast.
There were a couple of good suggestions as to what may be the cause. Not just the TPS, so hopefully the first thing you try will be the right move.

Good luck let us know what does work when you get the chance to fix it.

Thanks Uncle...You did win something, if I ever make it your way or you make it mine the first cold beverage (of your choice) is on me. Maybe even a couple more after that.

I'll let you all know once I get it figured out and fixed.

I'm headed to Reno this weekend, for Street Vibrations, but some day I will head south..... I have been riding all over the north half of the state, kinda staying away from big cities, but I could head back south... Lake Havasooo sounds like a fun place to go. I watched Nitro Circus on MTV tonight./... they make it look like that lake can be a load of fun!!!!

Does the bike show any codes?? seems like if the system has a problem, it might have a code or two come up.
The jeep showed the injector code, but as it turned out it was not the injectors, so I dont know if I completely trust the codes...

another thing you might try is cleaning out your IAC port withe some throttle body cleaner. You would be amazed how dirty it can get.
