The FLT is in the Touring family, the Road Glide, Electra Glide and Road King plus others, all rubber mount and all TC A motors which utilize a swing arm frame. The Night Train you reference above is a Softail and would have the TC B counter balanced rigid mount motor. All those HD letters take a while to figure out, so yeah, use that nice 88B motor for a rigid or Softail type frame and build yourself a nice bike.
What I'm saying is that if you have a swingarm frame (FLT or Dyna) you don't have a TCB you have a TCA .If you give me the number off the left case I will tell you exactly what you have.
The "B" motor will mount in a softtail frame.
Let me ask, was the motor bolted in the frame when you got it?
That will help out knowing if they belong together.
The letters that start with... FXS****** ,or FLS***,they should be softtail models, meaning the newer triangular swing arm.
If they start out FXD***** ,or FLH****, They should be Dyna models, or meaning the old style swing arm frame.
I hope this helps.
Keep asking questions, we'll get er' figured out.
You've come to the right place!!

Yep you got the wrong motor. Do not think it is bolt in, but everything can be made to fit.
The B motor is smoother but you loose HP because of the counter balancers, I think about five percent HP loss.
Before I went any farther I would be sure I could get the bike titled. Some states you can not title salvage titles, and some are a real hassle.
Starting with a new frame is better, but still check with your motor vehicle registration first, there are a lot of different regulations per state.
Some states need the bike inspected by state police, some need inspection by a certified inspector.
Some just want your money, will give you a new title and number, slap you on the back and say enjoy your bike.
If you are in Calf, darn near forget it.
Then be sure to call your insurance man, he may change your mind.
Custom bikes can be difficult.
The frame has a tag that states FLT 1450 on one of the uprights.
The VIN is 1HD1FDV103Y
The neck and about 12" of the uprights and the backbone has been cut off.
The engine was not in the frame when I got it, Maybe I misunderstood the shop owner, I thought he said the frame went with it, as in the engine came off it, he may have been meaning to get the engine I also had to take the frame.
I have the trans, primary and primary cover here with me, the motor is at The shop still.
The trans has 4 bolt holes in the front where it looks to bolt right to the engine,
has 2 oil lines on the front also on the left side.
it has a 5 bolt chrome cover on the top,
a 6 bolt chrome cover on the side.
It also has a crossways bolt hole, (long) across the top rear part of the trans about 4 inches from the rear.
As far as titleing the bike, that is no problem here in ky, I have already checked all that out before I bought any of it.
Again if anyone has any parts that may work for me let me know..
That VIN is for an FLT,I need the numbers off the engine case to tell you what motor you have. Is there a rectangular boss on the top of the transmission case just forward of the 5 bolt chrome cover? It would stick up about 2 inches & be about the same length with one 3/8" hole drilled through from right to left.If that boss is not there it is an FLT (or Dyna) transmission,if it is there you have a Softail Trans.Hope this helps
