I have been using the Amsoil 20W50 MCV oil in the prim., as required, recommended by Amsoil. I was looking at the RedLine site and they call for a prim., lub that is like 1/2 the weight of a 20W50 at 100 deg., C. The Redline prim., lub is the same as their MTL so their site says. Seems to be very light weight compared to a 20W50 weight oil, in fact equals a 5W30 weight oil.
Has anyone out here using it in their prim., and what do you think of it? I have been thinking of it in the prim.,and also using there gear lub as called for by Redline on their site to. Again anyone using the Redline products in their prim., and or trans? Thank-you and have a great day now eh.

Re: Twim Cam Primmary Case lub.
Diesel, after tryin Harley tranny and chaincase lube, and Amsoil, in my tranny I went to RedLine heavy duty shockproof. What a difference!!I will use nothing else in the tranny again, shifts better and smoother,no matter how hot it gets.I tried Amsoil in my chaincase for a while, but don't think it's the right fluid for the job.Went back to Harley chaincase lube.I do run Ams in the engine and am very satisfied with it,the engine oil runs cooler.Put an oil cooler on if you haven't already, that dropped the engine temp nearly 30 degrees going down the road.Be careful which RedLine product you buy,the one I mentioned is made for racing trans and rearends and is sometimes hard to get.Hope this helped.
20/50 in the primary is too heavy, IMO.
I use the redline MTL. Works perfect.
In fact, I use redline in all the holes.
Heavy shockproof in the trans., its nice and quite, and shifts real easy. I use their 20/50 as well for the motor.
The redline hvy duty shockproof is awesome in the trans. I ran that in all the choppers at my house. Plus its nice... with it being red, you will always know when you do and don't have a trans leak.
Maybe the 20W50 is too heavy but that is what Amsoil calls for with their 10W40 being the secound choice for the primary. The 10W40 would be fine in cooler weather for sure and that is what Amsoil use to call for before the twin cams came out. Maybe they want the heavyer as the new twin cams run much hotter then Harleys before. The Redline MTL seems too light as it pretty much the same as a 5W30 oil at 100 degs C. Street Bob how hot has it been out side with the MTL in the primary. I think that I will try the Redline in the primary and the trans., as I like the sound of it for the trans if it shifts better the trans., without the noice and smother into each gear would be very nice. I think I will stay with the Amsoil for the engine as the Amsoil is better at 100Degs C., heavyer then the Redline and at 150 Degs C is far better then Harleys for sure. When I get some time will e-mail Amsoil and ask why there choice is such a heavy weight lub 20W50[MCV] oil compared to Redline's light weight of a 5W30[MTL] oil for the primary case. If one uses too heavy a lub then you will get friction from the oil itself.
Just as a for example, a buddy had Amsoil 20\50 in all 3 holes, 05 Softail, his clutch started slipping badly so whilst waiting for a new clutch he dropped the Amsoil out of the primary and tried a different lube, atf. Way better performance out of the clutch, not great performance as the clutch was already on its way out, but better than with the 20/50. Just another scenario to consider, not everyone has good luck with engine oil in the primary.
I'm no expert, nor can I give you "specs". I use the Redline MTL and I've never had any heat issues nor have I had any, and I mean ANY issues in the primary.
I will never use anything but the Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof in the transmission. Compared to any other oil, this stuff makes the shifting very smooth, and totally quiets down any noise. I have an 07' street bob with (about) 28,000 miles in it. I don't let it sit except in the winter. Once the salt hits the street, the bike is put up till spring, usually late March. Its usually put up by early, to mid Nov.
I swear by the Redline products, I even use their synthetic 20/50 oil in my motor and don't have heat issues with it either. The MTL keeps the primary good to go as well.
We get up into high 90's in the summer, with steady upper 80's constantly. I rode out to Az. and it was 105 there and still the bike had no heat issues. And no, I don't have any connection to the company..... LOL!!
