Default 105" opinions needed

2009 Ultra. Last winter: Bub 7's, Andrews 37 cams, S&S gear drive and PC IV, runs good. Looking at doing port and polish heads and upgrading to 105" with AMS Machine Shop. Looking for opinions if part II is a worthwhile project. One friend says "too little gain for too much $$ and gas mileage will take a big hit", second friend says "worth every cent plus big grin factor". Estimated cost is about $1,500. Thoughts?

do the heads and bump the compression up to 9.5 and install a oilcooler. The headwork will make a BIG differance. If you do the heads don't go too big on the intake valves as too big will make the volocity drop and on a bagger that is what you want.Mike

Thanks Mike. I have an oil cooler on now, a Jagg 10 row horizontal. The set-up from AMS will give me a 10:1 compression. I will check into the valve sizing.

When I had the Twin Cam engine hot rodded for my Ultra a few years ago by Andrew Rosa we decided not to stroke it, but simply to increase the bore, open up and match the heads, hot cams and Rhinehart exhaust. It produces close to 100 horses and 100 foot/pounds and is as reliable as can be.

Do you really need more power than that on the street?

Buzz...Sounds like the project am doing...pistons will be bored and honed at AMS, same for the heads, no stroking. With what I have done now I am in the mid 80's for torque and hp, with the piston and head work I should be around 100? If you had just done cams and pipes, not heads and pistons also, which is where I am now, would that have been enough for the Ultra upgrade or were the heads and pistons the touch that made the project? Is it a waste of money to do the project or a waste of potential not to?

Thanks.
