Unhappy Engine Dies - Getting Trouble Codes - Need Help

06 Road Glide - 95" w/510G Cams, Harley SERT, pipes and high flow air cleaner.

Recently the bike has stumbled for what seems like a half second. Been dismissing it thinking its water in the gas as that is what it feels like.

Today it really stumbled and almost died completely but as I was about to pull in the clutch, power came back and all was well until I got home (3 minutes). BTW - The engine lite came on and stayed lit. It has come on before but goes out after awhile or restart.

Checked the insttrument module for trouble codes and got the following on the ECM:
P0261 - Front Injector Open/Low EFI
P0263 - Rear Injector Open/Low EFI
P1003 - System Relay contacts Open EFI
PN141NU102-O

Looking for ideas as to twhat the problem is - Leaving for Bike Week next Tuesday and don't want to get stuck on the side of the road. Suggestions/Thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Boe

Found this post on another forum - posting it here for others to see and I'm replacing the relay tomorrow. Since its been an intermittent problem, I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. After I get a new relay in my hot little hands, I'll tear down the old one to check for corrosion.

ode P0261 indicates the front injector circuit open/low and p0263 indicates the rear injector circuit open/low. Because both injectors are sending a code, the only place where they have a common connection is at the system relay. Check for a loose plug or connections at the relay or possibly the relay its self could be starting to malfunction. To find the right relay the color of wires going to it are, Y/g, Be/g, G/o, W/bk. The relay gets 12 vdc power from the ECM on the Be/g wire which also powers the fuel pump it is grounded through the ECM.

Took the old relay apart and if it was bad, it was not obvious. The contact was a little corroded but not out of the ordinary. The coil was a little discollored and may have been breaking down. I'll take the bike for a ride this weekend weather permitting and hope that the stumbling problem has been cured. I'm leaving for Daytona Tuesday morning so I'm running low on options at this point. I'll do a follow up post if all is ok after I get to Daytona - or before if the problem comes up this weekend.

Wish me luck......

Put some dry gas in you have nothing to lose, At this time of year it could be moisture in the tank.

Took the bike for a 20 mile ride today - it 'appears' that replacing the system relay did the trick. Will take it out again tomorrow for a longer ride to make sure and report back for all to see.

Talking Re: Engine Dies - Getting Trouble Codes - Need Help

Went for another 30 mile ride yesterday - it appears that the problem has been solved. That little $10 relay sure makes a lot of difference.

Tomorrow I leave for Daytona. Its supposed to snow in the am so not only do I have to worry about something going wrong with the engine, now I've got snow to ride thru. Does anyone know where I can get snow tires for my bike at this late moment???? :-) This winter has been bizare!!!! At least in Daytona it will be warmer than Tennessee - I hope!!!!!

Don't count on it being much warmer. This is the coldest winter on record for FL. Temp have not gotten much over the low to mid 60's so pack some warm stuff.

Smile Re: Engine Dies - Getting Trouble Codes - Need Help

Made it to Daytona. Pulled out of Knoxville at 0500 on Tuesday and hit snow, sleet, rain and finally sun in Florida. The only consolation was that it stayed above 32 degrees - just barely!!! Did not have to worry about black ice. One of the worst rides I've done in 40 years!!!!

The bike did not miss a beat - the relay solved the problem.

Passing it along to all in case you get these codes and need to find the answer to the problem. $10 was all it cost - a great and cheap solution to a very troubling problem.

Thanks all for you thoughts on the solution to the problem.

Hello, Please, what is the relay part number and where is it located. My bike 2007 FXDL with heavy beather air filter and SE pipes, keeps wanting to stall when letting it idle, not always. It stalls sometimes in short order or after running hard or fast or just long normal ride and maybe not at all. It is a real pain and dangerous too. It shows no codes at all. It is sometimes a hard start after it shuts down and sometimes not. After it starts idles but will do it again sometimes when it comes time to idle again. If a 10 dollar relay fixes it, then great, only 10 dollars out of pocket if not. Have a great week-end now eh.

I'm not sure what the part number is but your bike is a different model and when the HD parts person brought me the relay, it was the wrong one at first - the connectors were not right. Regardless, its a little square relay in the fuse block on my bagger. Easy to pull out and replace. As I recall, the term System Relay appeared on the fuse block diagram.
