Default Got My Street Rod Yesterday

After looking around for a decent V-Rod to buy as a possible project bike for American Iron Magazine I found a very good deal on a modified 2006 Street Rod in California.

It arrived yesterday (along with frigid weather) with a nearly dead battery. The seller had told me the battery was low and needed a charge when the transportation truck arrived. He didn't have time to charge it for me and told me so.

This morning the temperature was 9 degrees, a bit too cold for me to hook up a battery charger in the unheated stroage place the bike is sitting in. If the battery was easily accessible I'd do it, but not in the V-Rod. Perhaps this weekend when it is supposed to hit a balmy 35 degrees.

Whew! 35 degrees? I was greeted with a nice spring-like 51 when I left for work this morning. Yes... I said 51 degrees... at 0700... in Colorado... in JANUARY!

If only I'd been savvy enough to have my riding gear ready. But there's always tomorrow.

Anyway, can't wait to hear your impressions of the bike when you get the chance to ride it. Even more lookin' forward to seein' what you have planned for it.

Oh... one last thing. Why would a motorcycle rag pick the part of the country with the shortest riding season to set up shop?

John 1:14

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD.

BlueBob, I was living here in Connecticut before the magazines. Besides, I bet a lot of us here in New England ride more miles than most riders in SoCal. It's not the weather, it's the attitude!

I rolled the bike into the lobby of the office building we publish in (don't ask, but a lot of odd looks from other tenants here) and installed a BatteryTender pigtail to the battery (as mentioned by superchicken and Bcknblk) and hooked up the charger. Hope it'll be up to full charge tomorrow.

Details and photos to follow.

Oh, I wasn't questioning the miles you put under your tires. I used to live in Maine, and I can't imagine many better places to ride between May and September

I just kinda figured the months between October and April might put a little damper on any test rides y'all might wanna do.

Although I've been a Kalifornicator since '69, I grew up in Michigan. I rode my bikes a lot in the winter there. Even ice raced on frozen lakes. One time on the road I got so cold that my knees were shaking so bad and slapping the tank back an forth that it put my '67 Bultaco Metralla into a speed wobble!

Oh, and back to the Street Rod, right on Buzz! I hope you really put that street fighter on a serious diet like the racers did in the past when they converted a street bike into a race bike. If you can knock 100-150 lbs off that cruiser it'll be a different animal. I'm dying to see what can really be done with the Vrods. Harley dropped the ball on that one.

Default Cool? No it's *&^%^$## COLD!

Warmed up here some today. My nostrils didn't freeze together when I went to work this morning. Does the Glide come with an optional block heater??

HA! Hey roadwhipper, the new water cooled HD might get a block heater...maybe even a heater for the pilot, too!

Buzz, curious what you have in store for the project bike.

I'll be watching in the pages of American Iron.
