Default 1130cc Site Sold

I was just over at the 1130cc site and read that Max sold his web site to some big company called Verticlescope.

If this is the comapny I think it is, they are a huge Canadian internet company that's been buying up web sites in lots of different industries.

Oh well, there's another independent operation sucked up into a faceless corporation. Wonder what it'll mean to the site?

Many people are getting worried about it. I'm sure things will be alright over there. Even if there comes to be a cost for being a member I would bet it will be a small cost. I would think most of the active members there donate more than the cost of membership will be anyway. Time will tell.

I'm sure back when Max started that site he had no clue how big it would get, and I bet there are many things involved in making sure it stays running. I know I wouldn't want the headaches of it. I do hope things stay the same over there!

All things considered, good for Max. I hope he did well on the sale. Lord knows he could use it.

It will probably look something like this site. Squeezing in ads where ever they can. It's not so bad. I am ignoring them already.

Or tell a member they can't show their t-shirt website in their signature because the forum owner had a bad experience with the t-shirt printer, then let "forum favorites" advertise all over the place when they use the same printer.

Yep

And this Max is wonderful and donating money hell the forum was his business. No one I deal with after I make money from then wants to donate money.

Meet a guy from the US who had his post removed a few times and eventually banned, hell of a open forum

Did you do the shirts? What you got?

Usually if a site switches hands and there's too much change someone else takes up the cause and starts another site without the BS. Running a big site takes up a lot of time and resources, so if he wanted out I can't blame him, and if he made some $$$ then great for him! Hopefully, the new owners won't alienate the users with new hurdles and rules.

Rather than try to ship overseas, I'll sell limited rights to my designs: $1 US for each Tee you sell, on your honor of course.

Anyways here is some info about the company and what will happen to 1130.com as they follow the same pattern with any acquisition.

1. The site will have numerous adds interspersed in all sections and in all postings.
2. There will be standard but limited access.
3. There will be a premium account which will grant larger avatars, and additional mail space etc. more $$
4. There will be a super premium account that will give you more access - more $$
5. No one will be able to sell their created items without paying a monthly m embership fee as a vendor. So those who make home brackets, etc, good bye. The administration suggests that they just mark up the price.
6. Big time vendors will pay big time $$ to advertise.
7. Apparently there is some sort of percentage for selling personal items.
8. They new administration is in this to make big $$.
9. ANY invention that has merit and is posted on the site becomes the property of the company.
10. Several more that I can't think of right now.
11. A lot of the postings will be supporting paid products. No product is ever called bad, even if it falls apart. Information will no longer be reliable.

11. Since the company now has deep pockets, Harley will be able to sue and will, for any product infringement or defamation etc. As to 11 above.

By the way you will start seeing posts on 1130 that refer back to motorcycle.com and questions about how many actual recurrent users etc. This is their management doing some preliminary stats.

Here is the current bill of fare for motorycle.com site of the V-Twin forum they bought several months ago.

This announcement surprised a lot of vendors, although that company has done in on every site they owned before.

New Small Vendor Program!
We are pleased to announce that we have a new vendor program in place that
will allow some of our loyal vendors that do not have the funds or the need
for major button and banner advertising to sell their products on the site.

The program is completely automated, and costs just $49/month (usually the
mark-up on just a few sales) so it should be quite profitable for those who
choose to use it. You can sign-up for the program by visiting the
Registration page.

As an official vendor, you will receive a vendor badge and will now be able
to make commercial posts on the site regarding your company and its
products. You can have links to commercial websites in your signature, reply
by PM to members with pricing information and offer advice on related topics
posted in the forums. There are (of course) some basic rules to keep in mind
and after you register, you'll get a PM explaining them in detail.

From this point forward, we will no longer be allowing commercial posts or
links including signatures from non-vendors.

If you are interested, visit our Registration page now.

And here are a few sites they took over. Some of these you may remember since they were very active originally. Why not look them up and check them out now and see what has happened.
