Default Why The Cold Shoulder?

Curious why we don't see many V-Rod stories and tech in print? Is there something about the V-Rod that Harley magazine editors don't want to print?

Is it that the readers don't want more V-Rods in the magazine?

How about the advertisers?

Or is it that the Harley magazine guys can't find enough good stories and tech to print?

I do note American Iron Magazine seems to be doing a bit more V-Rod content.

I thought a cold shoulder was what you were served if you arrived at Jeffrey Dahmer's late for dinner....

Yo,47... IMO,if ANYTHING it's the V-Rod owners who've YET to take advantage of their WELCOME here to JOIN in

Yeah, and,I highly doubt that advertisers would shun them

Buzz and AIM are leading the way on the V-rod. More than that, blazing the trail. There just aren't a lot of V-rods. Not many after manufacturers are willing to take a chance one somewhere around 100,000 individual units when they are looking at selling to 1% of the potential customers. Even H-D barely has any accessories for the V-rods.
The number one accessory for V-rods seems to be the Sundowner seat, which happens to be made by H-D. Just guessing from the V-rod dedicated forums and from the V-rodders I ride with, probably 20% of the V-rods in the US have Sundowners.
Next is exhaust. Most people don't want the hassle of installing new pipes then having to re-map the fuel system. Face it, for the most part, the old days of tweaking the idle and high-speed jets until "it sounds about right" are pretty much gone. I've seen flat-head v-8s with electronic ignition and and electronic fuel injection.
As for re-building the Revo motor, nobody has worn one out yet. It's just been in the last couple of weeks that one has been documented at going over 100,000 miles. He hasn't had any major problems. There have been a few race bikes that have grenaded their engine, but that is to be expected.
The dedicated V-rod forums are pretty busy. These forums exist primarily due to the way V-rod owners were treated on other forums during the early days of the V-rods. I consider myself fortunate that I only caught the tail-end of the real animosity toward V-rod owners. As a matter of self preservation, V-rodders sought out other V-rodders. Now it isn't so bad. A lot of HD "traditionalists" are comming around and accepting the V-rod for what it is. Nobody is telling anyone that they have to ride a V-rod, just don't tell us we can't. We get tired of hearing that our bikes aren't "real Harleys". I wonder if the owners of the first v-twins had to put up with that. "That ain't a 'real' Harley! It's got TWO cylinders!"
V-rod owners are a small group, and we tend to support manufacturers and advertisers that support us. But we are a small group. And growing larger every day.

I'm just getting settled back into my "normal" life after spending last week in Kansas City at the 5th Annual V-Rod Homecoming Rally. I got a mechanic's shirt at the KC plant and was wearing it to work tonight. I stopped at a truck stop for gas, and the guy behind me started in....."Factory Tour!!??" He asked.

"Yep. I'm just getting back from Kansas City. We finished our V-Rod Homecoming Rally."

"I don't like those V-Rods."

"Why?"

"They just aren't right."

"What do you ride?"

"I don't have one. But I wouldn't get a V-Rod."

"Why not? 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Low to mid 11 second quarter miles out of the box, Overhead cams. When you look at it, it really isn't all that radical."

Maybe it's just too radical for some. But the technology has been here since the '80's. Just not in the HD stable.

I happen to like the V-Rod and can't wait until they come out with a tour bike that is water cooled.....

Some people are just jealous. This follows the old Harley vs. Japanese bike. I wouldn't have one of those or it's not a real whatever. Ignore it. Ride what you like. I would like to have my old '76 shovelhead again but I don't. I have a TC 88. I like the VROD and would have one if I could have more than one bike at the present time. Maybe later. You'll find no animosity here and I'm pretty sure that AIM has done well with VROD articles. Your perception probably comes from how relatively new the bike is at this time and how many exist in proportion to the other HD motors. It'll catch up eventually.
