Default Engine Oil For V-Rods?

My buddy has a V-Rods and loves it. He's starting to get into wrenching too and wants to know what engine oil to run as his Harley is air cooled.

Suggestions or doesn't it really matter that much?

I've been using Mobil 1 V-twin 20-50.

A lot of V-Rodders use synthetic oil. Most will use the Mobile 1 V-Twin like dessert Speed or Amsoil. It depends on availability in the region.

It really doesn't matter what oil you use, as long as it compatible with wet clutch use. Be sure NOT to use automotive oil, as the friction modifiers cause clutch slip.

It's more important to change the oil at correct intervals. I change my oil every 3K miles, just for peace of mind.

Yah, an $8,000 peace of mind. 2500 t0 3000 miles for our bike depending on how hard I/we have been riding. (At the current rate, we may make 3 months before we make 3,000 miles. That would be a first.)
I've never checked to see if Royal Purple makes a bike oil. I used to use it my 68 Mustang 302 that was dynoed at just a hair over 400 ponies at the rear wheels.

I think you meant to say water?

I think like 95% of all bikers (air or water cooled) use either Mobil-1 or Amsoil.

Yes, Royal Purple makes a bike oil, running it now.

I haven't given a lot of thought to wet clutches. Is the V-Rod clutch wet with tranny fluid, or engine oil, or is it all just one big system?

It's an all in one oil system.

I meant wet-clutch bike oil. I made the mistake years ago of putting STP oil treatment in a wet clutch motorcyle. I got to work just fine. I had to have my wife bring the pickup to come get me.
