Racist!?! Wow, I've never been called that before (tongue-in-cheek I hope).
A side note, it is an honor to have been directly responded to by Mr. Rivero- your much anticipated additions to American Iron Magazine have already become legendary and granted a celebrity-like status among the VRSC crowd. Very exciting! Now I have to renew my subscription.
Back to topic, us DXers are certainly elitists in a modern-tech-outlaw kind of way- a trait that is much more exaggerate beneath the cloak of anonymity of the online world, and not-so-much in the street. Ironically, on the street I love to see any other V-Rodders out there, and in fact I am actually pleased that there aren't that many bikes like mine (3rd year of production and I still get the "what is that? look from rubberneckers).
I think the specific appeal here though, is in the rawness of it, fitting in line with the Dark Customs family. While other VRSC's garnish the futuristic frame design with chrome, shiny paint, brushed aluminum, and anodized parts (not that there's anything wrong with that), the VRSCDX drapes modern technology with darkness and flat finishes, even a traditional cafe-style headlamp, in effect making the complicated platform look simpler. Sort of anti-glam.
I'm really not this artsy.

I'm just relaying a message. If I didn't make it clear, it's not my position at all.
The reason there are so many different styles of bikes is because there are that many differnent folks who ride. To each their own.
As long as you appreciate your bike, that's all that really matters.
Thanks for your well wishes with this AIM endeavor. I'm quite excited about it and I hope my contribuitions are satisfactory.
See you on the road!

I loved the V-Rod from the moment I saw it online when they were first introduced. I called my husband and told him to take a look at my next motorcycle! We ordered it before I even took it for a test ride. That was 2002. I rode it for two years and was really wanting to change the silver to black. We were thinking about completely stripping down the V-Rod, and powdercoating the frame, painting, etc. Pretty expensive proposition. Then somebody let us know that the '04 models were going to be offered in black! When the new motorcycle came in, we had the dealer switch out all the mods from my '02 to the '04 (Thunderheader, reduced reach handlebars, reduced reach pegs, Performance Machine wheels, and many others). The '04 model still had the small gas tank so a couple years ago, we had an aftermarket, 5 gallon tank installed. That helped alot! I put 27,000 miles on the '02 and I have 70,000+ on the '04 so far. LOVE IT!
I've always loved the V-Rod, but what did it for me was when I got to sit, not even ride, but sit on it at the 105th last summer. After that, I knew the V-Rod would be in my garage some day. I don't even wish it, it's just a given that it will happen.
When the v-rod first came out, I didn't care for the all aluminum look.
I took one out for a test ride and really liked the way it responded and handled. I thought "what a great bike"., but I still didn't like the way it looked.
Now, with the changes the company has made in color schemes and different exhaust and other small changes, the bike keeps making me look it over when I'm in the dealership.
Whats up with that????
Ya, I know someone dug up an old thread but since they did.............
The V-Rod is growing on you because you let the wall down, be it a little at a time. I'm an old schooler myself and understand without a doubt the mentality of the traditional riders, the history, nostalgia and so on. For good or bad this is not a judgment but rather an observation. However it's rather comical when you consider that Harley's history has been jammed with similar battles. The Knuckle, Pan, Shovel and Sportster all had to endure the same attitudes for various reasons. Not to mention that AMF's are revered now when they were once spat on as not Harleys! They all endured and now are part of the mystique and all that bashing has been forgotten.
I had wished for years that Harley would get off their a$$ and build a bike with relatively serious performance. They did, it's a beast, 125 HP out of the box, low 11's, 0-60 in like 3 seconds. It's a machine ALL Harley loyalists should be proud of. You don't have to like it, to each their own for sure.
I loved the v-rod when it first came out and knew I would have one some day. I got a colbalt blue 06 "A" and loved that little bike. I just traded it in two weeks ago for a 09 flstf for something different. I will have another v-rod someday, probably a muscle or a "AW". I love the v's but I always have a flh, 06 flhpi now, for the long trips also.
I can't believe I'm saying this: I want a Muscle. I thought they were butt-ugly but they've grown on me.
I've seen two Fs that I like, a red and a black on red. Silver is butt ugly. Black is too common and does nothing for the bike. If the F was a two seater, I might consider riding a bike with forward controls if it comes in blue. Since I have a V-rod with mids and it's set up for riding double, I really don't see an F in our future. My son however, who is not quite 21, will get an F as soon as he can. The bike suits him. He's 6'4" and the foot controls and handle bars fit him perfect.
