Let me give anyone coming to Florida a little Geography lesson on where to look for nice roads, it is easer than trying to name them.
There is a ridge that runs down the middle of Florida. It follows the I-75 corridor it is called the Florida ridge. No it is not like the Blue ridge.
It ranges from 100 200 to the highest at over 300 ft down by Orlando.
It goes through Valdosta Ga., Lake City, Gainesville, Ocala, Orlando. There is a tail that goes down towards St Pete.
This is where all the good top soil is, where all the roads/towns and people are.
It is what we call the real Florida, and is by far the prettiest part in my opinion.
It has curvy roads live oaks and Spanish moss, some small hills, a lot of farm land, both cattle and crop land.
If you get off this ridge either west or east then you get onto land that is 20 to fifty feet above sea level. It is flat and the soil is not good. That is why they grow planted pines.
When they cut for roads they did so with dredgers and the roads are straight for stretches of ten to fifty miles without a curve.
When you get to the gulf or to the Atlantic then there is another small ridge that traps water in the low areas, so you have land that is swamp in between the ridges, might not look like swamp but it is no good for anything but pines, snakes and alligators.
These area are very dull riding.
While riding through these areas be real careful of deer.
Along the shore is pretty if you stay away from town, south of St Augustine to Daytona is pretty.
It is real pretty around Lake City Gainesville, (the area that I live is mostly country) south is Ocala, north of Orlando, and west of there is pretty.
It is pretty all the way over to the St. Johns River.
A trip around the St Johns is nice.
East of that is flat.
Over by Tallahassee is real pretty. There are a lot of Canopy roads in the town. Do a search and you can come up with a map.
Don’t go there while the Seminoles are playing it get real crowded.
West of Tallahassee is also pretty.
The Loop is great in Daytona, but getting there is boring.
The gulf south and west of Tallahassee is pretty also still not very crowded, and you can ride right along the gulf in many places. Apalachicola is very pretty.
If you look at a map of Florida, you can see the differences in the geography of the regions, and by the roads that are there. If the roads are straight and few between then it is planted pines/swamp.
And swamp may sound pretty but it is boring after fifty miles.
Stay away from towns especially Orlando. Gainesville can be a headache. Ocala is not to bad, or is Lake city.
Try to stay off the main roads but there are a lot of back roads that parallel 31, 441, 90 ect.
