I am interested in hearing from people in regards to the 2006 VRSCR Street Rod. This is open to anyone who has something to say about the bike. The ideal responses would be those people who have actually bought the bike or at least ridden it. Tell me what you guys think.
I actually have ridden one. I'm not a VRod fan, but I'll tell you - it's an awesome machine. The power is incredible and the riding position isn't bad. I wonder about the price because for the money there are other bikes with more HP and similar riding position for less money. I think of the Trumpie Speed Triple right off hand, but there are many more. The VRod, IMHO, is years away from being accepted as a true Harley for many reasons. The Revo' is an outstanding powerplant. I still don't understand why Buell doesn't use the VRod engine because it could be amped up as far as they want to go - and in the market they are in they are grossly underpowered. Imagine buying a Buell and being smoked by bikes with half the displacement and five thousand dollars cheaper........ The Revo could tighten the gap.
ahhhhh.....I'm a sucker for technology sometimes and this bike has it. Would I buy one? No way. In my book it's not a Harley. I said it would be years before it will be accepted as a Harley, but there's not enuf years for me to truly accept the bike because I see it as a metric in HD garb...goes well with the botique. I do love some metrics. I rode a BMWK1200S - the one with 168HP and it is an amazing machine. Also like Triumphs. I still think it's ridiculous for Buell to try and compete in the market they are trying with that powerplant. I've ridden Buells and they handle great but if you want true handling in a sportbike package and you don't do "Niponese" then there's no comparison - get a BMW. I like that Speed Triple. Jeez - I like so many bikes and I wish I could own one of each for all of my personalities...but my ride is an HD and that's a true HD...not a Porsche on two wheels...overpriced and metric. Hey, there are folks right here that are truly "See no Evo - Hear No Evo - Ride no Evo" For them the VRod isn't just not a true Harley - it's an abomination..........
Well, this is in response to all of you that think a V-Rod is not a Harley, simply because it does not look like one. By the way I've owned a Street Rod for about a year, before that had a night train for 5 years, before that a Low Rider for 8 years and before that a Sportster. Including my dirt biking i've been a motorcyclist for 26 years.
It seems to me that all of your concerns are based on not being accepted by the Harley crowd. Well, that's pretty sad. It should be about riding a motorcycle and Harley has finally made a machine (all of the VRODS) that acts like a motorcycle retaining all the Harley character. I mean when you pull the brakes it actually brakes, and at 90mph+ it does not wander all over the freeway. I respect all motorcyclists and if your idea of riding is sitting on a bike that feels like a couch on wheels... well I even respect you. But you can't afford to criticize something far more advanced to your ride just because it looks different.
I thought the whole idea about riding Harleys was to be different and not to follow the status quo.
Rethink your status and please and open your mind.
[I've owned 11 H-D's since 1972 including two presently, a VRSCDX and a Softail Deluxe,(both '07's) there is no comparison between the V-Rod and the Softail for sheer fun in handling, power and road worthiness! The V-Rod is the winner hands down. Technology is spelled "V-Rod", nostalgia is Softail Deluxe. Unfortunately, our all knowing and all seeing DOT/EPA Federal "BS" agencys have found another bucket of s--t to put their paddle in and stir and as a result we're probably going to see the demolition of the "evolution"]and a "revolution" (no pun intended) within the ranks of those of us dedicated H-D purists. That's my take on the Fed's and their regs, we're going[to be living w/liquid cooled engines in our beloved H-D's./I]

The Street Rod was a close second. Handles great. Looks good. I wasn't crazy about the handle bars and the seat height was taller than I wanted. No problem for me reaching the ground. Since we were looking for a two-up cruiser, the D won out. The Night Rod just seemed to handle a passenger better than the Street Rod. I know a couple of R riders that disagree with me and that's OK too.

As I've said elsewhere, road-racers are my background, and I now have two VRSCR's. The bike is a blast. It can be a challenge in corners, but LOOK OUT on the straightaways! I've gotten some very surprised responses from crotch-rocket riders I've passed on mountain passes, mostly starting with "That's a H-A-R-L-E-Y?!?"
Beware of Harley riders with knee pucks!
