I was wondering what was a good set of cams for the 1130. I always ran big strokers with high lift cams and like that erratic low end. I would like to change the stock cams out to something not too tame but not too radical. Something good on the street. Any suggests?

Bang for the buck, this new cam set from HD is an awesome cam. The ones from Jones or Megacycles will cost $200-$400 MORE and that's without the Air cleaner and velocity stacks.

This cam has more lift than the 480/460 megacycles cams, and the long duration of the exhaust cam will help to reduce reversion at typical street cruising RPM's. This stage 2 cam looks like a winner.

It looks like the base circle on the Stage II cams is slightly smaller than on the stock cams. They will require shims to the large side (2.80-3.00mm) of the spectrum available from Harley Davidson.

If you don't have a set of shims available to you, then you'll need to plan a couple days of down time while the shims you need are delivered.

If you do have a complete shim kit, you're good to go.

(There aren't any "kits" per se available from Harley Davidson. You'll have to order the ones you want. )

Yeah. If you think about ordering enough shims to make your own complete "kit" you'll need about $1,000 in "spare" cash. You need to order 8 each of the 44 sizes of shims at $2.65 a pop and a place to keep them.

Here's the kit I started for doing valve lash adjustments. Sizes 1.925-2.650 which do take care of MOST STANDARD valve adjustments.

Now with the "Stage II Cams" I decided to fill the rest of the shim kit for sizes 2.675 - 3.000. (Not pictured)
