Exclamation Longer lasting tire

Just a question for the wise board here. I have an 07 Electra Glide Classic with 20K miles on it and am in need of another rear tire! Not to mention the front one will need replacement soon. The last rear tire I had put on was suppose to last longer than 10K but, that didn't happen. I was just curious if such a tire exists. I keep a close check on tire and shock pressures and keep them within factory specs and I don't ride it hard (no burn outs or sliding stops) I just ride it a lot. Any advise will be appreciated, THANX.

10,000 mi? wow ! I'm lucky to get 6,000 on Dunlops touring tire. tried a few others but came back to hd's dunlops. seem very soft but unbeatable in the rain. And after all, I do live in western wa. It rains a little bit here. hahaha

I've been running Elite 3's on my Road King and can get around 12-14K on the rear and 20K on the front.

They handle better, too.

Hey Rocky

I've run many diff brands and I keep going back to Avon and Metzler for handling and longevity..

When I ran V-rated Avons and Metz I would wear out a rear in 4-6K miles but the H-rated will give me about 14K.. That's a year of riding for us.. And many dozens of Hole-shots..
Your Glide is prob far heavier than my rigids so that might have alot to do with longevity also..

I have also found, in my experience, that I cannot corner faster than an H-rate tire, HD sickles will high-center on something--foot-boards, pegs, pipes, kick-stand before getting low enough to take full advatage of a V-rate tire..
If you hit oil, sand, gravel etc. it doesn't matter what rate tire you run..

We've been in many hail and monsoon summer storms with our Avons and Metz..

Now this has got to be just some weird fluke but I got almost 2 full years, about 22,000 miles out of an Avon Venom AM42 rear H-rate.. And that was of course with dozens of Hole-shots.. That tire had to be a fluke..
I mistakenly said a Super-Venom in another post some time ago, perhaps I should go edit that..
BTW-- the front Venom-- AM41 is the worst front I've ever run..
Don't worry about mixing them, that's an old wives tale..
I've run as many mixed brand sets as I have Matched sets and never felt Any diff at all in handling or perfomance.. It always feels better Mixed or Matched simply cuz you're running New tires..
Have a ball..

Rocky

What air pressure Harley recommends for the Dunlops is less than what Metzeler recommends for their 880's and you can have problems if you run them at the lower pressures. Frisco's right about the different series tires. The higher mileage tires have harder compounds and some even have different belt configs. I'll be happy if I get 10K out of my Metzeler Lasertecs. My FXR weighs about 200 lbs less than your EG but I ride pretty hard. Just curious, do you use your rear brake a lot ? That can shorten the life of the rear tire.

I'll tell ya,, one of the many things about SF I miss, you do most of your riding in the City right,,, is this,, the streets of SF encourage hard riding..

The Embarcedero freeway, the Broadway curve, (gone after the 89 quake) 101 thru town, up Franklin and down the other side,, all of Market and Mission, the Haight, thru the park, Potrero Hill,,,, I never Never got a ticket in the City and rode it like I owned it..

One of the best thrills is going up Gough from Union about 5 AM.. You can see the lights up the hill at each intersection and if you time it right you can make the whole roll to the top, picking up speed and FLY right OFF the the top of each block, land in the middle of the intersection or further and twist it up the next block..

I get older and things change but man I got memories..

Oh Yeah Baby..!

Thanks a bunch folks, I was just told by some guys here that the elite 3 tire was good for a few extra K than the stock tire, and I got 10K out of the stock tire. I appreciate the advice. Oh yeah Milnidh I try to use my rear brake sparingly for the reason you stated; excellent point. I guess you just have to pay to play but, man what a toy to play with!

Frisco I only made it to Frisco once and was pulling an RV though all the downtown areas much to the dismay of the locals but it was that or walk and thats just not an option as i would have had to leave my rig unattended in frisco , no f-------- way in h---.

I did this once with a passenger....the back tire dropped away when we were airborn, she said she looked down and saw the seat 3 feet lower than her behind, and thought it was gonna be all over. we landed so hard the handlebars dropped down below the tank.... I gave one big pull and brought them back up so I could get a hold of the brakes..to stop the thing. wow that was a rush! (Uh NOt a Recomended Stunt to try)

I think ya gotta get up a little earlier now to make that ride up Gough, a couple weeks ago I had an onsite job in the city and at 5 am there was a little more traffic than I thought there would be.
