Also found out...a letter will be sent out about this tire to all who purchases an 09 touring bike. The key for 100% replacement is to have 3/32 left on the tire with 3 readings in different places. Otherwise its only 50%.

I am getting a new tire installed today. The local HD didn't know how to handle this and I had to call the Corp HQ and they called the dealer.

I am still out $180 bucks for the tire I repalced (at 14k) but I also have just under 10k on this one
So, WTF I am still a head of the game.

Yeah I heard about this. I think I'm going to just ride mine for a bit more... they look fine... might as well get more free tire miles out of them.

Gas Man....They started to cup at about about 4500.....I had just under 9600 on them when they read the thread depth....It jumped all over from 2/32 to 4/32....They take 3 readings and add them up and div by 3...final #.

I got the 408 type yesterday....let see the fix. They still have a rear tire wear problem that hasn't been address yet.

Hmmm I'm almost at 7k. Haven't noticed any problems. I should check my tread depth... make sure I trade them in before too late.

Well I found out a bunch more info on this. The dealers aren't suppose to tell you anything about the service/safety bullitin. If a customer comes in and complaigns about ride quality, vibration, etc. They are to check the tires and work accordingly.

First off its front tire only. It only covers the cost of the tire not the labor.

Yes 3 readings to get the average. The readings for this come on the bottom of the Y shape grove in the center of the front tire.

I'm hoping they'll do the rears soon. That would be nice.

I stopped by my dealer today and asked about it. We checked it. Sure enough my wear was 5/32 and 4/32, on and off all the way around. Currently the dealership has a no tire labor deal going on so I had the new tire put on while I waited. What the hell. I rode it for free for almost 7k

Gas Man,

They will cover up to $267 for material and labor per HD at the Corp level. I had the front done with "No charge" at all. The only thing the dealer didn't want to do it on the first tire with 15k on it with 3/32 reading. I still have that tire along with the rear.

Also, they didn't know that to do when I showed up with all the Service Bulltin paper in hand...Long story but it would have cost me $35 buck if they changed it there way with the warranty. So, I called corporate HD's and put a complaint in....Next thing I know is the dealer is calling me and willing to bend over backwards to take care of the problem.

The customer service person at 'Corporate" said I should try and get a refund for HQ's on the first tire but I am not greedy or unreasonable...It had 15k on her...So, I'll take the new 408 tire and happy.

Well i would love to see a copy. I sent ya a PM.

I was told it doesn't cover labor.

A buddy of mine got his tire with like 7k on it replaced for this issue abt 6weeks ago. Then this came out the dealer got him his money back.
