Best Harley For Woman Rider
Harley Woman RidersDiscuss Best Harley For Woman Rider in the Harley People forums; I agree, the dynas handle way better than a softtail.
I've had both....
I'm also a 'woman' rider for over 40 years and 5'6"....I've had 2 Lowriders and a Heritage and an Electric glide standard....I am now on an 05 Deluxe and love it...Don't let her get a Sporty !!!! I find my Deluxe easier to manouver at a standstill than the Lowriders. A girlfriend of mine took her course in 05 and bought the Deluxe also and loves it...
Sporty's are fine IF she wants one. The lows are really great, but it is a matter of what she wants.
I still suggest a Buell Blast for her to learn on. They're cheap - You can find them all over ebay for way under $2K. And if she lays it down and scratches can be wet sanded right out of the plastic, like the plastic was designed for. I have a friend that's got a garage full of HD's and Buells and the one he says he has a (pardon the pun) blast on is the Blast. He's done more to customize his ride with grips and bags and such to that bike than his other, bigger Buells.
Then, if she wants a , or different, bike let her pick out what she wants. Though I wouldn't go huge right away.
My wife still rides her 82 Shovelhead she bought new and bitterly hates Sportsters and those who inflict them on women who don't really know better. The center of gravity on a big twin is lower and they are very stable.
Do NOT, under any circumstances, let her worry about weight and "picking it up". My wife was fixated on that, like she could have bench pressed her sportster?????
Anyhoo, she bought, and hatedm,a Sportster custom. sold it and got a Deluxe. All is well.
My daughter, bought, with her own money, a sportster, plain old regular 883, and had it lowered.
Likes it, doesn't love it. Mainly because guys giver her crap for riding a sprtster. She is now shopping for a used VRod.
My wife is thinking about starting riding and she wants a Harley. She is almost 5 foot 6.
Recomendations on what you think she might be most comfortable with for a first real bike (after riding little scooters many years ago).
Any more info? She find anything she likes yet?

John 1:14
It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD. ----Abraham Lincoln
I have to agree! I took the Riders Edge course in the fall of '07 and was looking for my first bike(I am 5' 5.5"). I considered the Sportster, but fell in love with the '08 FXDSE2 Dyna. My husband told me just to get the bike that I wanted in the first place, otherwise I wouldn't be happy. I purchased the Dyna and have been happy with it ever since. I did practice with it for about 3 week in an empty parking lot before taking it out on the road. Now I ride every chance I get!

I would take her to the DMV and get her M/C license. I would then; sit her in front of you; get ready to whip your hands under hers to take the bars over if you see some left hander about to do a number on the both of you.
You both can communicate and watch her start her bad skills and ween her away with the skills you know that will replace that little mistake she has as a beginner.

Renting a bike for the day can be an eye opener...... and cheeper than buying the wrong bike.
And I like one of the first answers.... the one she likes.... is the right one
