Default Where are the ladies?

Hi,
To those of you who didn't see my post in the New Member thread, I'm the new Associate Editor at AIM. I noticed that most of the posts here in the women section are from men. Where are the ladies? How about we get this thread moving by starting off with a simple post about what got you interested in riding. My story, I'm sure, is a lot like many of yours. I was on the back of a few fellas' bikes before getting the itch. Initially, I always found myself on the back of sportbikes, though, and they didn't really spark my interest. It wasn't until I finally got on the back of a cruiser that I knew this was for me. A riding class and a few starter bikes later and here I am! My parents weren't all that happy with me to start but they've gotten used to it and I'm finally close to getting mom on the back! About time after 10 years... I'd love to hear your stories!

Congratulations on your position at AIM. I am not a subscriber, just pick it up at the newstand each month. Yes I am a female rider and started out as a teenager not as a passenger, just got quick instructions and hopped on a dual purpose bike and started riding. Kept that up through my teenage years. Marriage to a non rider and children happened and no more riding.

In 1997 my husband was bitten by the riding bug. I went for a passenger ride one time with him and it was not for me. Went and took the basic rider course to make sure I could still do it and have not looked back. The kids and my husband have followed me from NW Louisiana to Banff, Alberta, Ca. Laughinging over the mud roads encountered in Montana, 19 miles of gravel road in North Dakota. You never know what you will encounter but HD's weren't made just to look good right? LOL

Oh I forgot my present ride is an '09 Heritage Classic. Been through a couple since '97.

Welcome to the forum Miztoe, glad to have ya here.

Seems like when kids come along, we gotta set the bikes aside for a while. I blamed mine on the helmet law, that's why I sold the bike... then when the kids turned about 19-20, I couldnt take it anymore... must have been the empty house. (even tho they live next door) and like ya said, got back on a bike and never looked back.
I think I have logged over 150k miles since '03.

anyway, feel free to post a picture or two.

Thank you for the welcome. Interestng how the kids change our lives. We have four, 3 of them 46 years old ride the 36 year old does not. 2 of the 46 year olds started riding at age 18 and had 17 riding years under their belts before #3 got into it which got Dad into riding and I am so glad it happened. We have so much fun together. Point the kids were the influence both ways.

Welcome to the jungle Miztoe.

My kids did not get in the way of me riding. They enjoy being on the back of my bike. I rigged up some pegs and a harness system for the boys so they could tool around with dad. After my accident this August my oldest "10" asked if I was going to get another bike and ride. Of course I would. He was excited. Guess some folks told him his old man should give it up after that fun day.

Soon as I am healed and get another ride. Shootin for March or April. Heels inches off the deck!!!!

After I laid my bike down at 80mph, I was trying to buy another one before I could even bend my leg... I couldnt kick start the bike, so I had the salesman do it for me...then I test rode it.... thought better about it and got one with a push button.... that was back in '83

I dont like to hear when the ladies crash.... but glad you come out ok and still ride.

I hear you on the push button. Not sure about getting the sales person to kick it over for you to ride with that leg was a great idea but you made it ok. Got My first Electra Glide Classic in '04 and I am about 5'2 thought about everything except when I got ready to leave the lot I couldn't reach the kick stand, had to get the salesman to put it up for me. Really embarrassing. Got an extension ordered. I am spoiled rotten. Love the '65 electra glide since it has both. I really want one of those. Husband just doesn't see the logic in that. Hmmm. Glad you healed, I do not like to hear about anyone going down especialy at high speed and I consider 80 mph pretty high speed although it seems to appear on my speedo a lot. LOL. My incident was totally my fault at an intersection legally (I give a bit of fault to interference from obstacles I should have paid more attention to). I keep kicking my own behind because I loved the bike I totaled and I am just now becoming really fond of the new one.
