I have an 01 road king. I have used Dunlop 402's and Metzler ME880's. I can't get over 4800 miles out of either rear tire. I usually ride 2 up. I live in missouri (lots of hill and curves). I am very diligent about checking tire pressure. The manual says 40 psi rear - 36 psi front. Anybody got GOOD advice on tire pressure other than what the manual says.

Welcome to the forum,
I have an 06 Ultra, and run the same tires, and get approx 6k to 8k miles on the rear tire. but I ride 2-up only 30% of the time.
Road surface and the fact that you do ride 2-up most the time is a major factor.
as far as the tire pressure, I go off what is printed on the sidewalls of the tire. the manual is normally close, but the tire has it right there for ya.
hope this helped.

Welcome to the forum siqua. I'm in Missouri as well and do a lot of 2 up riding but I get about 8000 miles out of a rear tire, all Dunlops so far. A lot of the roads I ride are chip & seal and some are gravel. You're doing right keeping watch on pressure. As unclepsycho says, you might try going off the pressure given on the sidewall.
Ride safe and God bless, Sincerely: Shovelmike.

Metzelers will wear out in a hurry if they are underinflated, normally this is 42 psi frt & 45-50 psi rear.I keep mine at 42 & 48 and got 9k from my last rear (still going on the same front @ 18k)

Is there a wear pattern? Left wearing more than the right, more in the middle of flat across?
Is it cupping?
How is the wear pattern on the front tire?
Does the bike pull to one side or the other?
Who is installing the tires?
