Default Best Cold Weather Riding Gear

OK all you polar bear riders. What are your favorite cold weather riding gear and secrets?

I prefer layers that can easily be taken off at rest and food stops. ALWAYS something around my neck to keep the cold wind out - turtleneck, bandana or ???

Also prefer some of the technical stuff that is not as bulky and thick. I hate feeling like I just gained 50 pounds in bulky clothing.

I have some elctric gear but don't seem to use it much - don't know why.

Ok I have to confess that my cold weather riding gear is a long sleeve t-shirt.... sometimes a light HD logo jacket but that has to come off around 10 AM...

sometimes I like Florida.

I try to ride year-round. I'm using Tourmaster Winter elite gloves and now use silk gloves under them. I think this is good for another 10 degrees. I also have found that silk is pretty good under everything. Chaps and biking shorts with the chamois in the crotch help keep the jewels warm as well. And of course a full face helmet with a baklava, a silk one under a polar- tech one. They even make silk under-socks.

Anything Gortex! Depending on how cold, you can get away with a little less clothes with Gortex.

Carhart Quilted Bib overalls. Hope into them in a minute. Can take em off or unzip when indoors. Thin pair of electric gloves. Fullface helmet.

Danner Gortex boots and a pair of wool socks. Good down in the teens. Single digets may only give you a few hours before you have to find a place to warm your tootsie's.

Something to cover your neck. I use a scarf with the full face and a face mask when I wear my Half helemet.

Coldest I have riden over a few hours -8 and I have no idea on the windchill. You dont care after that. Thats what made me get the Full Face and heated gloves.

That warm coffee you drink likes to fog up the glasses/shield.

I've worn winter silks long underwear, and worn the silk glove liners before getting the electrics. They kept me as warm as yer gonna be, I guess. I havn't ridden in -8 temps, tho (yikes!) maybe in the teens. Those temps don't last very long here.

I can't say enuff good about those gerbing heated items. The only thing is the charging system on my old girl barely keeps up. I'm thinking about adding another battery and a better charging system. I need to look at that 3-phase set up.

My cold weather suit is one I got from Dennis Kirk over 20 years ago. I believe it is the same as a snowmobile suit. It is all lined with Thinsulate, The pants are like bib overalls so that with the jacket the torso is double layered. It is water repellent as well.

Mmmmm...baklava.. Favorite pastry!

Wool lined sealskin jacket. Used it for years. Kills the cold. Sucks the rest of the year.
Danner Ft Lewis. Goretex with Thinsulate. Warm AND dry.
Fleece lined leather face and neck warmer.
Hands are getting old and fussy. Thinking about heated gloves.
Doesn't really get that cold here any more. But, I have crossed the Rockies once or twice, early March, to keep riding longer than a couple of hours, you need good gear.

Merry Christmas people

Head to toe:

Pull over (thin) ski mask, Carbon helmet, goggles,

Long underarmour type undershirt, generic as I hate under armour), leather shirt, Harley lined FRXG jacket.

Gauntlet leather gloves, with separate glove liner.

Generic underarmour pants with windproof jeans or insulated long johns with leather pants.

Chippewa black rally 27862 boots with insulated socks.

Only thing that gets cold eventually are my fingers. Might try heated gerbing gloves.
