Default ACC DOT Helmets

I just bought an Advanced Carbon Composites DOT helmet. The customer service was excellent. However, I just found this article on the FMVSS 218 testing performace and the ACC helmet failed testing and was recalled. Does anyone know if this issue was resolved? They claim the helmet is DOT certified and I was willing to pay a premium for the helmet. Also, how good are these standards if companies are allowed to do their own testing to certify a helmet as DOT Approved yet in Independant testing, the same helmets fail? Maybe that was a rhetorical question

It's really hard to wade through all that tech stuff not knowing what exactly their "penetration" tests consist of. To me the biggest drag and weak point of that helmet is the quick release connector. Looks pretty weanie to me. According to a CHP flyer I picked up when I went there for a vehicle ID verification the strap alone makes it a "novelty" helmet and therfore a violation.

According to the DOT test results the failure of the shell and the connector, this helmet is a "novelty" helmet no matter what the maker claims. How can they get away with that? Easy! They just do it until some agency makes them stop or someone, like you maybe, sues their rear ends.

No, I went ahead and bought the helmet. It arrived on Friday and I rode around with it over the weekend. It is very thin and very light weight. However, when I get moving, the helmet wants to ride up and back, not a good feeling. I may have the wrong size or the wrong sizing pads. The helmet seems a bit small too as I normally wear a Medium and am using the thinnest sizing pad. I will try it out for another week and if it keeps riding up on me, I am going to return it. Hope that helps.
