Re: I Don't Understand The Value of Motorcycle Chaps
I wear them when it's cold.
Then if it gets wet too I'm more comfortable.
But mainly, because cold is a distraction and chaps will pay off in less numb spots on my legs if i get stupid, again.....
The LAST thing I need is more numb spots on my legs.

Re: I Don't Understand The Value of Motorcycle Chaps
I don't have any chaps...yet! I will be investing in a pair. Fox Creek has a nice set with a zip-out, quilted liner. Those are the ones I have my eyes on.
I, for one, have never cared about what everyone else thinks about me or what I wear. I am who I am and who God has made me to be. Even in high school I didn't care what others thought.
Everything I wear when I ride has a purpose. Just the other day I bout a neoprene face mask, with a polartec fleece face and neck guard, and a beanie that has some type of nylon material on the skull portion and polartec fleec around the the bottom portion to keep the forehead and ears warm. The beanie was designed to wear under a kevlar helmet and works perfect under my helmet. The only thing that isn't covered is my eyes, which I have a set of Wiley X clear lens glasses with foam inserts that block the wind. When I get to work the only thing that is cold are my legs and I wear some thermals under jeans. The wind eventually breaks through them, but the kids stay warm. I don't have to "bait the turtle" when I get off the bike.
I also wear a Carhartt thermal lined zip up hoodie under my leather jacket. I've actually considered buying a set of Carhartt quilted lined bibs to wear just to keep my legs warm. Believe it or not it is quit cool in the mornings here in SoCal. The other morning when I driving my truck to work I hit pockets of cold that dropped the temp on my thermometer in truck down to 37*. I usually drive one day of the week.
Nothing wrong with chaps IMO.

That's pretty much my thoughts on chap's too, Gunny. I have never cared one bit whether I was "in style' or not. God willing I will be heading out in a couple of hours to a lunch destination 75 mi. away and will likely wear the chaps and heavy A2 jacket. It is 43 degrees now, due to reach 63 this afternoon. The chaps are great for dealing with morning chill yet easily removed and stashed when the day warms.

Re: I Don't Understand The Value of Motorcycle Chaps
After this post was started, I saw a cover on a magazine with the rider in leather "overpants". I found some on the "Leather Up" website for less than $100. Just get a set 1 size larger than your normal size and pull them on over your pants. Yeah' they might look kinda gay, but I'd rather be warm than freezing. I'm going to get a pair soon ( pants' that is)
Re: I Don't Understand The Value of Motorcycle Chaps
ok guys, funny! I live close to and work in palm springs. They have a lot of events there for the homosexual community. in my last job i worked in management for a very large security company and we had to do the security for those events. so that is how i found myself to be at those events. i still shudder at the thought and want to burn images out of my brain with a hot fireplace poker.

Bigincher....Ditto on your statement....Leather sure keeps that wind from beat-en you to death....but you have to reach 50-60 years of age to realize it.
On my 46 Indian I couldn't afford any headgear and my father made me wear an old leather football helmet in the 60's

PS...ok, so she's on a horse....you get the idea, no?
Hey Peter I agree must be a fashion statement so I went and looked in a Victoria Secret Magazine (Wife and Daughter of course) and saw Fashionable leather pants but did not see and chaps so I guess we know which is the fashion statement BTW we cowboys have been wearing chaps for over 100 years and it ain't for fashion
One other thing that is a nice saddle. All that Silver overlay must have cost a fortune.
