Does anyone know of a decent brand of fit-over sunglasses that don't cost an arm and a leg and still last for a while?
I don't want to go with a prescription riding pair since my lenses are in the $800 range and I'd rather spend the money on gas than special riding glasses.
The only ones I've found are around $18 and don't last more than a month opr so before they're so scratched you can't see thru them.
TRy the fishing dept at the local WalMart or Bass Pro.
However, I hae an optician frinde who recommends the following
Based ono a question about prescription polarizewd transistion lens availability
----------
Yes and no, if you have a pair of transitions and surface in a polarized filter it hinders the changing of the lense.Meaning it won't get very dark or clear thus defeating the purpose of SUNglasses. I'd recommend a Rudy frame either Rydon or Kettyum with a Rx insert (it's not gay looking), that way he can buy multiple lenses for fishing, hunting, etc. Tell him to look at the web site and if you both want to stop by the house I'll bring my samples home from the store, plus xxxxx has all his samples here too! Also, if his Rx does change it's cheaper to update the insert and the big PLUS, any time you Rx a pair of glasses, ANY BRAND, the scratch warantee no longer applies. If you left the lens plano and used the insert the lenses are covered.
Tried the rudy project site and they don't list any source within 20 miles of my location and their dealer search does not go beyond that range.
I do not have transition lenses. Mine are a progressive lense(no line trifocal) with additional prism ground into the lenses to correct for double vision. They work fine for what they are supposed to do. The only frames suitable at the time were a wire style; which allows wind to enter along the nose pads which causes eye watering if I don't wear a fitover, either sunglass type or clear.
I am just trying to find a source of fitovers that are more durable than what is found at the local Wal-Mart or pharmacy. I checked with one optomotrist that handled fitovers; but they were exactly the same as Wal-Mart only twice the price.
How about prescription goggles. My lenses are fairly high too, but Ellie Taylor Goggles, Santa Barbra. made me a pair. Tempered glass lenses, photogray, bifocal. That was about 20 years ago, they cost 120 dollars, my regular glasses were 200- 225 back then. They are still in pretty good shape.
I'm in the same boat you are, expensive prescription and must wear them too. I found that Smith option OTG Goggles, about US$40, are the best there is. Bobster has a OTG goggle coming which I'd like to see (no pun) but they're not out until August 2007. Try the Smith's.
I have a pair of Solar Shields that fit over my glasses great and they don't make you look like a dip sh*t, at least I am told that. Maybe their just being nice. heck them out at www.solarshield.com
I have a pair of OTG Goggles made by Spyder, wit interchangeable lenses. Clear and tinted. $36 on line. Sorry can't remember the site, Google "Motor cycle Goggles"
I also saw a pair of motorcycle specific goggles in Lenscrafters for prescription lenses.$120, I might give them a try myself, They looked good, not so bulky and you didn't look like an Insect wearing them.

John 1:14
It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD. ----Abraham Lincoln
