Default Helmets. Why Black?

I've often wondered why so many Harley riders who wear helmets prefer black.

Sure it looks tough and most Harley riders wear more black than any other coler.

BUT

Black helmets are hard to see in bright sunlight, rain, mist, and at night.

Black helmets attract and retain heat when riding in the baking sun (not good for your brain or reflexes when your head gets heat soaked).

Just wondering. Course I have several black helmets myself.

White would be a better color, especially for the heat issue, but black just seems to be synonamous with Harley. Or as the Tshirt I saw at the dealer said. "I'm only wearing black until Harley comes up with something darker."
I wonder if HD could but a heat reflective coating on their helmets like they did on at least one of their FXRG leather jackets. Even better - Put the coating in a spray can or something someone can coat their leathers and gear. Would love to spray some on my seat after BSing too long with buddies while the sun pours down on my seat. YEEEOOWWW!

I have one black helmet with an eagle on top, wife and I have matching white helmets with headsets for use on the Ultra, a white Bell I bought in 81- love that helmet but the liner disintegrated. I still have my Captain America helmet I bought in 71 (don't wear it anymore probably brittle as glass but I'm sentimental)

it's a biker thing--black. Nothing looks better than black and chrome. You cant go wrong w/black. It's a common color--synonomous w/toughness, which is the image.....

I always thought it was because lighter colors get filthy. You can't really see 2,000 miles of grime and bugs on black.

John 1:14

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD.

My buddy stopped wearing his white Bell 3/4 when his wife told him that he looked like a big sperm.
