Default Barkhamsted Connecticut

Anyone in the Northeast familiar with the Barkhamsted CT. area? Looking at possible land purchase. It is at the north end of Route 8. Not too far north from Rider's Cafe. Right by Barkhmsted resevoir. Curious to the riding in the area. Thanks.

If you take Rte 8 North to the end {highway} you're in Winsted. Take a right at the end which is Rte 44 East, that will bring you into Barkhamsted. If you take a left at the end it will turn into Rte 44 West/ Rte 8. And Rte 8 will continue but is now a secondary road and will bring you to Otis Mass and beyond. If you continue on Rte 44 West you will hit the intersection of Rte 44 and Rte 7. Rte 7 North or South is great riding. Land in Barkhamsted can cost a pretty penny so be prepared.

P.s. I'm only about 30-45 minutes East of Barkhamsted on the West side of the Connecticut River.

MTYEVO.....sounds like you know the area pretty well. Is Barkhamsted way in the sticks? I see the satellite image, mostly forested it seems. Any larger towns close by? I've been up Route 8 before to Riders then headed west back into NY up 22 north. Never went as far as Barkhamsted. May have to take a ride up there and look around. Basically looking for a piece of land to build a future summer home. Are the taxes in CT. average with NY and Mass. in that area if you know? Thanks EVO

Riders isn't that far from Barkhamsted. It's not in the sticks but it is in the country, nice area. If i remember correctly if you keep going North on Rte 22 it runs right by Rte 44. If you follow Rte 44 East from Barkhamsted the state capitol of Hartford is 45-60 minutes away plus there's other towns along the way ie, Canton, Avon, Farmington etc. etc. The tax rate in every town is different and i would say that it would be on par with Mass and NY maybe even less. If your ever in the Danbury area go to a place on Candlewood Lake called "Down the Hatch" i think you'll like it.

MTYEVO.....Thanks for the info and your time. We pass through Danbury quite often. Next time through I'm gonna take your advise and find Candlewood Lake. If there's cold beer and hot wings it's my kinda place. Thanks for the heads up. Mike

The riding in this area is awesome. I just spent 3 weeks out west riding and in spite of how beautiful it is out there, I sure was glad to be home. This region offers some great short distance riding. You can easily do a full day of dining, walking, riding and cover an honest 250 miles.
