Default Lake Superior questions

We are planning a trip around Lake Superior in July. Looking for info on what to expect weather wise and if there are ample places to stay without booking rooms in advance. Any highlights or additional info would be appreciated.

I have been in , under, on ,and around lake superior its cold. bring your leathers because if the wind is off the lake and the air temp is 80 it a cold breeze. ample place to camp on the USA side farther on the canada side. watch out for critters their big and some have attitudes but hell have fun its a great experience to tell your friends.

I have also been in, under, and around her. She is one cold blooded lake. If you have her in sight you will at least need a Jacket 9 times out of 10. I know the Minnesota side pretty good. I try and get to Grand Marais at least once a year. On the Minnesota side Take MN-61 from Duluth all the way to Canada. It is a two laner with lake view most of the way. A number of small towns with hotels and campgrounds. Can get kind of pricy in July. I have never had a problem getting a room in Duluth or Grand Marias. Campsites fill up fast.

If you head west away from the lake to some of the old mining towns like Hibbing or Virgina camp sites come pretty easy. Nice roads to explore around the once open pit mines. It will be about 100 miles out of the way. The view is worth it.

I know the roads around the lake might be under some sort of construction. They are old roads and get tended to anually. Getting through is not bad. But you may have to clean your bike after. Some of the dirt is nasty and hard to get off. Its the red clay looking stuff thats bad.

It is heavily forrested. Deer, Moose and bear may come out and say Hi. I believe their is a book available for motorcylists that have a route around the lake. Sorry I forget the title.

Go during the week. The two laners are swapped with campers friday through Sunday.

Great ride!Went around it two years ago.The south side gets wet, lake effect weather.Spend some time in Sault Ste. Marie, the ships and locks etc...From there to Wawa is a great ride you may want to allow time for this piece of road. Also DON,T ride after dusk!Moose, bear, deer etc... Nice family type motel in Wawa right off the road can't remember the name,it's next to a car dealership. Not much between there and Marathon so GAS UP! Nipigon to Thunder Bay lots to see, check out the canyon.Thunder Bay H-D dealer is next to a bowling alley/bar/food/hotels.Wawa should be the only place you'll need reservations.Bring your leathers!WATCH OUT FOR THE TRUCKERS!!!
