Hey guys,
Trying to get this done but lots going on. Anyway heres day 1 and I'll get to the rest ASAP.
Day 1 - Long Island, NY – Wake Forest N.C. 540 miles
Loaded up the scoot last night and took a quick test run to make sure everything would stay basically where I put it. All good. Plan was to meet at 6AM Exit 43 L.I. Expressway. Originally was just my riding buddy Al and I making this trip. As time got closer to the trip two other guys decided they wanted to join us. Keep in mind neither of them has ever done more than maybe 200 miles in a day. I could hear the whining already. “Jimmy the Skirt” appropriately named due to whining and Jimmy the Wig well you can figure that one out. Night before the trip I get a call that yet another is joining us, Big Joe. Met him once prior. Didn’t know much about him. Sounds good to me I guess?
Saddled up at 5AM and made the quick run to the meeting place. Everyone is on time. Unbelievable. Rolling by 6:15 heading west. Decided to cut through Manhattan via the Manhattan Bridge and the Holland Tunnel. Im sure we woke up the city with the pipes rattling of the buildings. Blasted through Jersey heading south. We hate Jersey. Stayed on 95 through DC and started heading west on Rte 66 to pick up 15S. around Manassass VA. 15 south is a nice road with just the right amount of small towns to stop for fuel, etc. About 500 mile into the trip with another 40 to reach our buddies house in Wake Forest NC. Al’s shift linkage lever strips at a gas stop and he cant shift. I know better than to offer advice to Al when his scoot breaks cause he’s like a Wildman. To add insult to injury this giant hulk of a woman with no bra on whose been living under the shelter of an old car wash comes over to offer her insight. Bad idea. We’re all laughing our azzes off to see how long Al will put up with her. After about 5 minutes Al very nicely tells her to take a f****ing hike. When the timing is right I offer my advice and we’re rolling again with a bungee cord keeping things in place for the time being. Of course we lost an hour or so and then the skies open up on us. Heavy rain forces us under a metal overhang carport thing which was placed on the side of the road for advertising. I was ready to pitch the tent and call it a day. The guys wanted to continue to the friends but the weather would not agree and we were soaked. We gave up and ended up at a section 8 hotel with a bunch of crackheads hanging out drinking Heinekens. Habib Shishkebab who owned the place was changing outdoor lightbulbs on a metal ladder in the middle of a puddle in a lightning storm. Priceless. His partner was painting in the rain. Pink no less. We took the rooms and made it clear to all the upstanding citizens there that if the bikes were messed with there would be hell to pay. We had a case of beer with us. Life is good.
The pics are here broken down by day. I stole Bluebobs idea used Photobucket cause I dont know what Im doing. Some maybe mixed up for all I know.
