Default Laughlin River Run 2009

Hi there

I have not yet been to Laughlin. I met with a few riding friends last night and the subject came up of riding to Laughlin. How many of you all are headed there? Wouldn't that be something to put faces with the screen names. I dont have any plans as of yet, but first I need to make sure I can have the days off work. I would probably camp out on the ground, unless the wife comes along....she dont think dirt camping is fun anymore...

only 8 weeks and 3-days to go

Been to Laughlin many times and April is certainly one of the best times to be there. I can tell you that July and August are totally unbearable.

Well, no matter where I am, on the bike, when it goes above 90* I am in the water.,... wether it is a lake, river, pond... or steal a hose at a service station the wife dont like it, cuz then she gets wet too.... ha ha.... the heat dont really get to me too much that way.
I bet April weather is perfect in that part of the country. It is still cool here , north of the Golden Gate Bridge in april.

Laughlin was a blast!!!
Now for some random thoughts in some semblance of order here.

Day 1 (wed)
Rode 507 miles stopped for the night in Barstow. nothing exciting there.

Day 2 (thur)
rode 313 miles
went out hwy 40 to Needles, and then up Route-66 thru Oatman. The were puttin' on an event for the bikers too! They got donkeys running loose in the streets, kind of a fun differnt thing you dont get to see every day.

then went to set up camp in Kingman and then a quick trip to Laughlin to see the sights.

Day 3 (fri)
Rode 474 Miles
Went to see the Grand Canyon, had to fix the bike... shifter rod fell off. No problem only a 10 minute fix. I aint gonna post pic's of the Grand Canyon, they look just like all the other ones out there.

Came back to camp in Kingman for a rest and went to see Laughlin. I didnt get any pictures of all the beautiful women, but they were there.

we went and hung out at the Colorado Belle Casino. they had live music, it was 90* or hotter.

This guy got his picture taken with the Jack Daniels girls, so I stepped up to take his place and, well, the girls took one look at me and announced that photo time was over... no more pictures... that figures.

There were tons of bikes, venders etc, it was great!

Day 4 (sat)
Rode 363 Miles
We broke camp and headed for Laughlin again before we had to head home. I looked around to get a feel for what all kinds of bikes were there cuz I know Buzz will ask.....unless he was there too. It looked like, in my best guess, 30% baggers, 15% factory customs like Big Dog etc, 35% regular bikes like Dyna's and Soft tails, 10% trikes and not a whole lot of sport bikes! they might have come in later in the day since we left at noon for home. We stopped in Bakersfield for the night and found the Buck Owens Crystal Palace! now if you like country music and good looking women.... thats the place to go on a Saturday Night! Live music and lots of beautiful women. Did I mention the women there were hot!!!!

On the was back thru the Mojave Desert, the cross winds were a real fun extra ! I wish I could have gotten a picture of it; We was going 75-80 mph on that straight as an arrow road across the desert , I had the bike leaning into the wind for about an hour, the bike was almost over as far as the kickstand. My buddy riding behind me said it looked real cool going that fast for that long at that sideways angle.

All in all, it was a great ride, cant wait for the next long weekend.
Day 5 (sun)
Rode 381 Miles home! Grand total 2043 miles! and no real problems, since the shifter was fixed with a couple zip ties and on the road again real quick.
