Considering attending this years ROT rally in Austin, Texas and tying it to a short tour story of Hill country. Have any of you attended in the past?

I live about two hours away but haven't been yet. The people I have talked to say they have a great time, Texas style.

Now as far as a short ride around the hill country, that is a bit of an oxymoron. Of course if Chris M. had made the comment it would take on a different meaning - the short part not the moron.

You can wear out a bike riding in Texas and a good chunk of that is the hill country. If you have never been, Ride Texas magazine is a good source of places to see.

Except for two years in the army I have lived here all of my 61 years and still haven't seen half of the state. The fact that they call it The Republic of Texas Rally tells you something. In some ways it is like another country.

Come on down and enjoy yourself. You won't regret it.

I am looking for a small group to ride in the Houston area. I live in Katy and don't know a lot of people who ride. Any groups around? I also would like to know about this rot rally. Any help would be great.

There is a local board called Houston Area Riders that is some social and mostly riding. Sometimes they decide to meet up and just ride and other times they go to an event - things I had never heard of. I am positive some will go to the ROT rally. It isn't an information board like this one but everyone seems friendly.

I am out 290 just inside the beltway (Jersey Village area) and mostly ride Sunday mornings. Usually I go alone with no particular destination. Pick a direction then turn on a road to see where it goes, get lost then find your way home. Sometimes the best plan is no plan at all.

I like to ride in the national forest (Montgomery area) but usually end up with a pack of sport bikes on my tail and there is no way to get out of their way.

If you want to try and meet up for a ride some time I am game. I would suggest you join the HAR board and post there. Most likely there is someone in your area of town.
