Moto Giro Event in New York State This Weekend I am off this weekend to New York's Catskill region for the Spring running of the Moto Giro. If you are not familiar with it we compete on the public roads with small displacement old bikes over a course.
We have a Saturday morning and afternoon section, then another one on Sunday. We have to follow a written set of directions and try not to get lost or breakdown. We then need to punch in at each check point on time or lose points.
All bikes must be made prior to 1969 and run in 50cc, 100cc, 125cc, 200cc, 250cc and 305cc classes. I will be competing again this year on my cafe racer 1966 Ducati 250 Monza. My pal Jim Sims will be competing on his 1966 Harley Sprint 250. He is planning on writing an article on this for a future issue of American Iron Magazine.
If you are in the area and want to see us off, we leave from Friar Tuck spa in Catskill, NY early Saturday morning. Most of the competitors and our very interesting bikes arrive there Friday late afternoon or evening. |
