Default 3/4 Iron Butt

Well I did a 3/4 Iron Butt run this weekend... Twice!!!!!

It is 743 miles to my Dad's place, and on Friday I made it in 15 hours...then Yesterday (Tuesday) I made the return trip 744 miles in 15 hours again!!!

I know, My math is off a little, but it is real close, another 7 miles to be exactly 3/4. But close enuff for me.

I got 80* and rain on the way up in one place...and then it was 47* on the return trip when I left... I took about 3 hours to get over the mountains to Portland Or, where it warmed up a bit.

I am gonna go for the 1000 miles , the real Iron Butt, next summer. I need to rest my buns for now....

Good job Unc.

I've done several 715 mile runs to my dads down south. AInt so bad if the weathers good. Longest in the saddle for me was 860 on the way to Sturgis, half of it in the rain. Not good. I was 23 when I did that.. No way I could do that now.....or maybe. Good luck on the Iron Butt.

Im 47 now... last time I did over 700 in a day was in my 20's. 2-knee surgery's and a back surgery later, and it is a challange to get those high numbers in one day.....

When I went to Laughlin, we did an average of 400 miles every day for 5 days.... the longest was 540 and a short day of 360, and that was no problem.
Taking breaks is the answer for me. stop every 70 to 100 miles and take a 20-30 minute break.

Hope you can get back in shape to enjoy long days in the saddle Botz.

I got some wierd sound from the right side at the last 200-300 miles of the trip, but I will check it out this weekend.... the noise is coming from the cam chain case.... kinda hard to hear... or I was deaf from the wind noise.
The oil pressure is a steady 32 all the way.....so I guess the adjusters are ok... for now.

I ran 70-75 mph @2800-3100 rpm for at least 10 hours straight each way.... with the stops at 100 mile intervals....
If it turns out to be anything major, I guess it is good to be at the end of the summer....

Gasman and others
You may already know this, but Iron Butt association has people to document your start and finish and other things... you sign up, set your course, get gas reciepts with time stamp etc,... and when it is all done, they send you a certificate...
This is all done by volenteers, so it takes a while for the paperwork to go thru when you are completed.

I am planning a route similar to what I just did... only in the start and end... I will go by Crater Lake and up thru the center of Oregon etc....

Here is the website for Iron Butt.

I turned 40 in the saddle doing a 1k IB ride this summer. A couple of others planned the route from Minnesota up into Canada and down into Michigan and then test rode it. It was raining when we left and rained for about 2.5 gas stops. Was cold the rest of the way except for about 1 or 2 legs up in Canada Then it rained in spots on the last 2 legs. Bad weather or not. It was awesome. Best of luck with it. It should be awesome.
