Whats the deal with MB Bike Week? Is it worth the trip? Looking at a few of the sites promoting it, they all say take this and that road, avoid City of Myrtle Beach at all costs, etc. Dont need my b*lls broken for nothing. Looking at Murrell's Inlet? Anybody been there this past summer and know the real deal? A buddy really wants to go and I dont feel like riding 700 miles to have a bunch of nonsense going on. Are most of the better biker joints out of the city limits? Looking for a place to stay with a good bar close by. Yes....I love beer. Botz

Forgive me Father for I have sinned!!! A few months ago V-TWIN mag had an article about what it was like this year. No, I didn't buy or read the article( I swear). Murrels Inlet is basically the southern part of M.B. The most popular bars are Suck,Bang,Blow( there are two of them) and one is in that part of the area. The other big one is is N. Myrtle Beach, H.B. Spokes, thats where VRYQUICK wins his dyno shootout!! From what I read earlier this year, all the happenings were north of M.B., out of city limits. I had a blast last year and hope to go back soon. It is so much cleaner, spread out and not nearly as congested as Daytona.
Some of the city folk are trying to fight back. Trying to vote in a new Mayor.
You must avoid the city of M.B. if you don't want a ticket for loud exhaust, or worse, no helmet.
Merrels Inlet is ouside the city limits and a good place to party. Alot of vendors didn't bother this year simply because M.B. city officials wouldn't give out enough permits...
I wouldn't go back to that rally. I went last year (2008) and to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed. I rode 780 miles to get there and this was before the helmet and exhaust issues, and I didn't feel the need to return. Just not that great of a rally IMHO.
But, if you go, just beware of the new laws.
Yes Myrtle Beach Bike Week 2010 is still on. The dates are May 7-16, 2010. We have the same Mayor and as far as I know there is still a helmet and noise ordinance in place in the city limits. There are many sites out there with information and if you search on “Myrtle Beach Bike Week” you will find them.
I want everyone to know there are many hotels and establishments in Myrtle Beach that welcome Bikers with open arms. The Sands Resorts is one of them. We have joined ABATE and are active working for biker rights.
We have also established a permanent tribute to the cost of American Freedom called the Hall of Heroes. The Hall of Heroes is located on our Conference Center at 201 75th Ave. N and features a scale replica of the Vietnam Wall, a Gold Dog Tag tribute to all those who have fallen following Vietnam, a display and tribute to those from 911, military memorabilia facts figures and reading material, and a flag display. The Hall of Heroes opened earlier this year and in July we dedicated the Missing Man Table with the help of our local Rolling Thunder Chapter.
For individuals or group reservations please consider the Sands Resorts, not only for bike week but any time of the year. We are happy to see you and will take good care of you.
If you would like to talk about or get quotes on group reservations please call me, Mark on 1-800-840-2601.
In my opinion, most of the "we're still biker friendly and it's just the city" comments you will see are from the businesses that are still trying to hang on through the double whammy of an idiot populace (those that voted the idiots in, and those that say they don't like what happened but didn't vote) and a bad economy.
I live two hours from the rally and wouldn't bother visiting except for the possibility of taking a ride and making Murrels Inlet the destination, returning the same day. Vendor taxes and restrictions have gone through the roof and combined with the other stuff, they are just staying away. I wonder what HOG and HD will do this year?
Avoiding the city puts an 18 mile hole in the middle of the event, essentially creating two rallies... one north and one south.
The last time I went, the only way that you could get to the HD dealer on the south side was by entering the city of Myrtle Beach because the locals closed off the median crossovers and forced you to enter the city. Just inside the city limits the cops were pulling over bikers, presumably for helmet or noise violations. I saw this with my own eyes and don't let anyone tell you it wasn't happening by planned harrasment. I had a helmet on and thus just rode through the road block.
One of the businesses in North Myrtle beach wanted me to leave my wallet at the door because the chain was considered a weapon.
The only reason that I went this last time was because a new rider that is a friend wanted to go to a 'real rally' and this wasn't too far away. I told them that this wasn't a real rally anymore once we visited.
The North rally has an HD dealer, some of the nicest and most reasonable beach hotels, and a ton of regular restaurants. Only one really famous biker bar, however. You can also have a nice ride up to Wilmington and visit the historic downtown.
The South rally has an inaccessible HD dealer (same owner), more biker bars, and you can ride to Georgetown and visit the historic area and go to Rebar, one of my favorite biker bars. The South rally has reasonable but older hotels/motels. There are also campgrounds in the area. You can also make a trip to semi-biker-friendly Charleston and see the sights there.
CW....Thats exactly the nonsense I was talking about. I think I'll steer clear all together. PLenty of other places to go where we're welcome. Thanks. BOtz

cwsharp and I had the same experience. I have never been to a biker event that was as "Biker UNFRIENDLY" as Myrtle Beach. There's many other places/events that will smile and say thank you as they overcharge you, go to them. A shame, as M.B. is a nice area.
For those who do not live nearby Myrtle Beach. This is not a Racist thread.
It is the belief of many locals that in order to get rid of black biker week which
coinsides with Memorial Day Weekend the Harley rally had to be put down first.
This way when the Law steps up its efforts to remove that rally....
many lawsuits will be avoided. Local officials do not need Biker Rally money when
tourist season opens Memorial Day weekend. That in itself is a shame because the
Harley Rally is off season which is why businesses generally oppose a ban to that rally.
