Default Lone Star Rally - Report and Pics

Well gang, the rally got off to a slow start due to a cold front that blew through on Thursday, but by Friday at noon the rain let up and we were loaded up and headed to the island. Just myself and 2 buddies started out but by the time we reached the causeway, we were leading about 50 bikes. Mrs. Big had left earlier in the cage to setup at the beachhouse we rented and the rest of our posse were camped out at a condo a couple miles down the road. We all hooked up and headed downtown to check things out.

Good crowd was already at the Strand, which is the main drag and a historical area of Galveston. Hard to believe it was under 8' of water a year ago from Hurricane Ike.

Mrs. Big

We hung out till around midnight watchin the crazies, listened to some good music and called it a night.

Saturday morning over the Gulf of Mexico. Weather was perfect and we were ready to head out.

We stopped on the seawall and waited for our group. The seawall is 17' high and was built after the great storm of 1900 that killed over 6000 people and totally destroyed the island.

Tres Amigos

Frank finds some new friends.

Yea! Beer chicks! And I don't drink. But yea!, beer chicks!

Took a tour of the "Ghost Ship Ellisa". Found a few pirates on board.

After escaping the pirates, we were famished and decided to pig out on seafood at Fisherman's Wharf.

Bud Man was there.

Time to head back to the digs for a little nap before the concert. Old farts like us need our rest.

Concert was great. No pics because I assumed no cameras allowed but when I got there, they said it was ok. But no camera with me. Leon Russell was ok, Edgar Winter I thought was awful and Lynyrd Skynyrd kicked ass! They've got to be the only band I've ever seen that has that many lead guitars on stage and still pull it off. Nice show and it was well organized. And again, weather was perfect for an outdoor concert.

Anyway, Sunday morning was another beautiful day. We were rallied out by then and decided to pack our gear and head home. Nice that it's only a 45 minute ride. Good time was had by all and it was really a blast. Looking forward to next year.

Hey Big thanks for the pictures. I want to make that rally one of these days.
Looks like you married well above your station in life

So many coments that crossed my mind while looking at these fine pics..like did anyone ask the girl pirate to surrender the Booty? Did Frank play with the DCC's Foot Balls? And did he score. Man I could go on for days...

Looks like you all had a good time.

Just one question. How come Galveston looks so good, so soon after IKE?

And was a certain Glen Cambell song stuck in your head the whole time you were there? I know it is stuck in mine every time I look at the pics.

Thanks for sharing.

Did get a little lucky finding Mrs. Big. Hard to find someone late in this life that will put up with an old fart like myself. Galveston has really worked hard to bring back the island. Still have a ways to go, but after being completely under water a year ago, they have really done a great job. I visited homes after the storm that were several miles inland that had 2' of water in them. It was amazing. And in the greater Houston area, most of us went without power for 10 days or better. Not much fun, but we got through it.
