Default Sturgis Camp Sites

Anyone have a bead on a good campsite for Sturgis? Suggestions regarding both atmosphere and cost are welcome, because let's face it...it's not worth saving the money if you're not having a good time.

Glencoe is a good choice if you want to get deep in the middle of it all, with the Chip, you can get even deeper...eeek!

If it were me (and I need my beauty sleep and rest, let me tell you!) - I'd look at the 50mi surrounding Sturgis proper for camping - lots and lots of small campgrounds out of the noise and silliness

but YMMV

I agree with Steve.....I stayed at Glencoe in a tent for a week and had a blast. I remember the dirt road that runs to the dragstrip right from the campgrounds. That was hysterical watching all the big twins rippin through and gettin dumped in the dirt like they were dirtbikes. Plus we had a mini tornado and some nice hail storms. A trip that wont be forgotten. Great time.

The Glencoe is a hoot, for a while, but if you want a little peace and quiet (especially if you are staying more than a week) try one of the "outside" smaller campgrounds. I stayed at the Glencoe in 2005 and found it great for the first few days. Slept with earplugs, and found the showers and washrooms to get dirtier and dirtier as the week went by (even though the camp said they cleaned them every day). Th foos was also ho hum after a few days. The line up (not sure about the other campgrounds) to go into town every day was ridiculous. Watch your engine for overheating!!!

For 2005, we just rode into town, checking around for a house that was letting folks camp in the yard. Shower and laundry was free in the house. Walked downtown, and staggered back. No worry about overheating, well, at least not the bike....

Hi,
This is Steven. If it were me (and I need my beauty sleep and rest, let me tell you!) - I'd look at the 50mi surrounding Sturgis proper for camping - lots and lots of small campgrounds out of the noise and silliness. I like site very much.
