| | Mandatory motorcycle courses Effective today in FL., a mandatory state motorcycle course is required to get an endorsement for your license. You used to be able to take a course like MSF or the like and just take the certificate to the DMV, not no mo!! The article in the paper said the course was about $200, not bad, I paid $285 3 years ago and and glad I took it, not only to get re-aquainted on two wheels but I did learn some things . Ride safe and have a safe holiday weekend with all the explosives!!!! |

| | Isint MSF state sanctioned? I am sure our political leaders can put together a much better course since MSF has not had much practice at it. Huh?
Heck the state has driver courses and hand out a card that says you are legal to drive even if you suck!
They just want a few more bucks in their pockets. |

| | This is a sore point for me where my passions run high and my words tend to be strong. If a course is to be mandatory it must be more meaningful.
The MSF instructors deserve great credit for what they do out there on the course. If it were not for them I would not be on two wheels. I respect them in the utmost. That being said, from my perspective there are deficiencies in the course that must be addressed.
Here a just two: - In light of the fact that crashes due to the fault of the rider are often caused by lack of skill, the course is simply too short. It should be a series of meetings where the individual skills of the course are introduced, drilled with the group, practiced by the individual riders and then tested.
- Real traffic challenges are encountered by the learner permit carrying rider before they take the licensure test, but not in the MSF course. Considering how many riders are killed or maimed by automobile drivers it makes no sense that the course does not include mock and real traffic challenges.
It is time these courses become sum totally about the rider. If riders whine, they should consider the consequences of most crashes and get on with the business of saving themselves from themselves.

Some folk just love that word huh..
I think it is one of the most Un-American words in the language..
I think I like Choice a whole group more..
Choice to take a course or not..
Choice to wear a watermelon on your head or not..
Choice is VERY American..
Heck it seems like the the only time I ever hear about choice anymore is Roe V Wade.. I'm for choice there too..
Yeah I know-- wrong thread for my rant..

| | Okay. Roe Vs Wade is a topic I would not like to see on a motorcycle forum. Way too many folks get into nasty arguments about it. |

You're the boss man, you set the rules and I will obey. I don't want to ruffle any feathers, I'm a team player. Probably should ban the jokes especially the ones with off color content (smut) or politics. Especially politics, to much controversy. |

| | Uh Oh
I did not mean, even for a Nano-second, to bring Roe V. Wade into the discussion as an actual topic,, No way..
I am an Adament advocate of Choice about virtually everything and I only meant to use "R v W" as an example of how seldom I hear the advocacy of choice anymore (in the media for instance) except for that..

| | Frisco- I understand you were using it as an example. I saw Upnorth and seen both sides being represented. I figured I would suggest moving away from that topic before others chimed in. I seen otherwise normal folks go off the deepend on the subject. | | | |
