Default Re: 2 Nights 3 deer

A few years back on my rice rocket... we were out in the pickiney/hell, michigan area hitting the twisties hard. In full race leathers, doin what stupid kids do on those things do. Anyway, did the entire morning/afternoon of riding and such.

I was out front of the group of about 16 other bikes. Heading back to the highway down a 2 lane road. I see what looks like 2 dogs running around in a back yard next to the road. There are people in the back yard. Most country dogs don't run into streets. The people weren't making any big deal about it, so not too worried. So as it is running towards the street I'm on the helmet intercomm telling the people behind me about the dogs.

I ease off the throttle a bit... as the dogs starts thru the ditch. Then the first dog emerges from the ditch running towards the road. F**K that isn't a dog!! Brown, small, with white spots on its side. Its a fawn being chased by a dog.

I'm all over the brakes! The deers crossing speed is going to put me behind him with inches to spare!! or is it?

He doubles back... now I stand the bike at about 30-35 at this point on its nose... rear wheel off the ground! But now I still will miss the fawn's tail by inches again. I let off the brakes a bit so the rear comes back down... just then...

He doubles back AGAIN! And puts him right in my path no more room to re-act. The rear tire just hittin the pavement with the rear brakes locked up, applied MORE front... the bike slides into the fawn with the ass end coming around... catches and high sides me into oncoming traffic lane. I go rolling down the road... I see the bike on its side sparking in one of my rolls...MENTAL FLASH..

WHERE ARE THOSE 16 OTHER BIKES??????

ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM
ZING ZOOM ZING ZOOM

6 or so of them go all around me and my bike...

AM I GOING TO GET RAN OVER BY A BIKE?

I stop moving... I'm staring at the front of a green Ford Contour... STOPPED THANK GOD!!

I spring up like I have ants in my pants... go chasing after my bike.... buds stop me and makes me sit down...

Wearing all race leathers, hitting my hip and shoulder on impact and rolling.

No scratches on my helmet
left side of bike rashed and cracked stator cover leaking a little oil
rashed up leathers a bit

Got one mark on my elbow about the size of a dime from impact
A bruise on my left hip the following day

Not a scratch really on me...

Lucky or blessed.. not sure but glad to sit hear and tell the story.

Watch out for deer and "other" things.
