Default Head Trip Helmets

Just ordered the extended half helmet (DOT) from Head Trip. Anyone have any experience with them (the helmet or the company). I know they've been wore a few times in the mag by some of the staff. The company seems easy enough to deal with and seem honest about their lead times to build/ship a helmet. There is a guaranteed 30 day exchange or full refund on the helmet if your not satisfied, but how do they fit? Are they comfortable? I've been eyeballing this helmet and finally took the plunge after a sweet deal on a new rifle fell through. I know kind of extreme going from trying to purchase a rifle to buying a helmet.

I hate the helmet I have and feel like toadstool from Mario Bros. every time I put it on, plus it acts more like a wind sail than anything when riding down the road.

If no one has any feedback on this helmet, when I get mine I'll come back and leave some after I get some time to wear it.

Hi Gunny: This past Fall I bought the same helmet you ordered, extended half DOT. The woman I talked to on the phone was very courteous and knowledgeable. The helmet arrived in about 3 days...much more promptly that I expected.
I ordered the ear flap and the visor. Because I ordered the visor they put the 3 snaps across the front of the helmet, otherwise it has none. I don't often wear a visor or face shield but I like to have the option.
I have been very pleased with the helmet, it is very light. That is a big factor with me because I have arthritis in my neck and of course a heavy helmet makes it worse. I sure don't want to get run over because I missed seeing something through not moving my head keeping an eye out!
It seems to be a well made helmet and seems to be sized right for me, which is good because I didn't figure out how to use the sizing pads that came with it.

Thanks for the feedback Shovel. I'm anticipating its arrival. My current helmet is a bit heavy and after long rides it's definitely nice to get it off and stretch out the neck. I have issues with my neck as well after wearing a kevlar helmet for so long.

I received my helmet and wow from what I can tell it is a good helmet, however, I am a little disappointed with their sizing. It didn't seem to be as thin as I thought it would be either.

I used their measuring system to get my proper size, then measured again, and then measured one more time to ensure I ordered the correct size. I have a big dome and my measurements with their measurement guide said I needed a large. I ordered a large, tried it on, and it did not fix. However, I called them immediately and as Shovel very courteous and professional the lady told me what I needed to do and how to get the helmet back to them. They should receive it today and I should have a new one by the end of the week...hopefully one that fits.

Seems like a great company and they are very very easy to work with. They hold true to that no questions asked too. More to come once I get one that fits and get some road time with it.

Kevlar is light compared to a Steel Helmets I wore! You know back in the Old Corps Had to do it to ya Gunny!

Actually I was wondering if the sizing they have is smaller than you thought? I am thinking of buying one due to, you guessed it neck problems, so I wanted to know what size to get. I normally wear a 7.5 hat. A Large Marine Cover is tight on my gord so should I get a Large or an Extra Large?

Cowboy- That's ok, you're just telling us how old you really are

I'd go with an XL, I'm between a 7 1/4 and 7 3/8 ball cap and there was no way in hell I was getting my huge dome in a large. I wear a large cover and its a little tight until after a day or two of wearing it.

I love the one I wear. The buckle on the neck strap took some getting used to and it sometimes gets caught in my beard but it have gotten used it.

Alright, so I've some road time with the helmet. A XL fit perfeclty. What a freakin' helmet. This thing is light and comfortable, once it's on you can tell how thin they really are. No more toadstool effect and it doesn't catch a whole lot of wind, actually hardly any at all. With some helmets it there seems to be a "break in" period, not this one.

As Joe said that buckle takes some getting use to. The only thing I noticed (and I'm going to have to keep an eye on it) after the first wear it looked like the shell was starting to seperate a little from the padding. It may be the norm for the helmet, may not be. Either way I'm going to keep an eye on it.

Head Trip helmets are now selling at Ray Price HD and probably other dealerships, so that may be worth something. I just looked at the Polo, which has a shape something like the turtle shells. Very light and the padding is now simple to change. There is one pad on the top and one piece that goes around the sides. You can get them in different thicknesses. The Polo and a few other models did not fit like the mushrooms. Pretty light and thin.
