Default Harley's remanufactured engine program

Is there anyone who has an experience with this program? Good or bad. I just got the bad news and my twin cam is junk. Cam tensioners wore and caused cam bearing failure. Put a lot of crap in the bottom end. 48K on the Heritage.

Sorry, I don't have the info you seek... you have info I seek tho. What was wasted in the bottom end? Are the cases usable? That really sucks. I have a friend that buys the rebuilds from HD to power the chops he's built himself. They've all been evo engines, and he has had good luck. Can't say for the twin cam. You might also check out jireh cycles. They seem to have the best engine prices I've seen, but it'll be more than HD'S rebuilt. Good luck, let us know how it goes...

The cases are fine. Cam bearing let go and ruined the oil pump and bearings on the balancers. I'm going to go ahead and use Harleys remanufactured program. It'll take about 2 weeks for the dealer to get the motor back. Sure is hell not to be able to ride.

Just an update about Harley's program. I got the bike back and am very pleased with the rebuild. I was able to rack up some miles and get it broke in before the weather started to suck. Looking forward to getting back to riding once the weather gets better and ride it like I stole it.

That is what I should have done on my RoadKing - instead of selling. I have a question - was the labor to take out and re install separate? If I remember the engine rebuild is 2995. but I don't know about the labor....

thanks

Yes the labor was separate. The total cost was just under $5000. That includes the work they did to figure out what was wrong and a mild cam upgrade.

Default Dealer install

Heritage 03,

I think I heard you must use an authorized dealer to do the removal and install? Meaning I cant just pull and install the motor myself and use the replacement program. Do you know? Botz

From what I understand you are required to have the motor pulled at the dealer. Clif

Is this the reman. program where they swap engines or is this a rebuild program? If this is a reman. program do they use the updated cases and place your number on it? According to what I have read my 96 cases won't support a stroker kit or big bore which limits what I can do with it.
