Default Harley Catalytic Converter

THATS GOOD INFO TO KEEP TRACK, MAY NEED IT COME NEXT SPRING.
BUT I HAVE ANOTHER BEEF TO AIR OUT CONCERNING DEALER SERVICE (HD) AND KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THERE SELLING.

HERE IN CALIF. WE HAVE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ON NEW BIKES (HD's). WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHERE IS THE DAMN THING OR AM I ALL WET ON THIS? i ASKED ONE OF THE MANAGERS OF THE LOCAL SHOP HERE IN TOWN AND GOT DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS LOOK. HE DIRECTED ME TO THE PARTS GUY STANDING AROUND WITH HIS YOU KNOW WHAT UP HIS BUNG. FROM BEHIND THE COUNTER HE SAID CONVERTER WAS RIGHT ON THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE THE BLACK PLASTIC CAN WITH VACUUMN HOSES ON IT. I WALKED OVER PUT MY HAND ON IT AND SAID THIS? YEP HE SAID... WTF THATS THE EVAPORATIVE CHARCOAL CANNISTER I SAID TO MYSELF. THEN AND THERE IT WAS TIME TO LEAVE AND NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE GUYS. OH YEA THE OTHER BIT OF INFO ON BUYING AFTER MARKET PIPES WOULD MAKE THE ENGINE RUN RICH, WTF?
I WANT TO BUY LOCALLY, BUT DAMN. WHATS THE SERVICE DEPT. LIKE????

The catalytic converter is just like a muffler...in fact the "cat" is inside the stock harley muffler. They usually have something stamped on the muffler itself to indicate that it has the "cat" inside.

In this picture, you can see that the 'cat' is in there ... I cut one open to see what it looked like.. the 'cat' is the fat thing on the right. the pipe with the holes in it, is the inner 'baffle' sort of....

the charcoal canister is a charcoal canister,,,, it filters out the raw fuel that evaporates from your carb, or fuel tank ... has nothing to do with the 'cat'. But I think you know that part.
Charcoal Canister = intake system
Catalytic Converter = exhaust System

I should almost start another thread with this subject change here, but I decided to just get a better picture for ya...

The upper is a standard muff the lower is a catalytic converter type muffler.

The 'funnel' on the upper right would be the same on the lower one if I hadnt cut it off.... that 'funnel' is at the exit of the muffler.
