| | Re: Riders worse nightmare - Hit deer @ 85mph IMO what SAVED the guy was the fairing on the bike. He WAS going too fast. He was obviously in a place where he SHOULD have been LOOKING for TROUBLE..but was'nt. And if he'd been on an open framed bike...the deer would'nt have "glanced-off" the way it did. It'd have gotten "snagged" on whatever and spun his world upside down and/or inside out.
As for luck ?? Yep...dumb luck !!
As for riding skills ?? Nope...just dumb luck !!
Watch the video. In the beginning all the camera showed was his tach & speedo etc...then came the impact. On his way way back to the scene the cam showed the road and where he was heading...big difference.

| | Re: Riders worse nightmare - Hit deer @ 85mph Evo,
Heres a pic of my bike after the deer strike. I think the fairing protected me from getting a faceful of deer but I didnt fair nearly as well as the rider in the video. The deer was mid flight when I struck it and I believe had enough forward motion to pull my forks to the right and send me airborne. All speculation of course. I believe luck was on his side in the video. Notice the impact on my bike the fork and fender were pushed back into the frame. I was traveling about 45-50 mph.
