Default Young Gun

Hey, All

I've been a reader of AIM since I started riding (All of 6 yrs ago at 18). My first (scooter) was a bullet proof '78 cb654 rode till I found an XL883L (bike!) I'm 6'2" and would do a 500mi day for something to do (my body didn't like it). Both these bikes were simple for me to maintain, the sporty was new enough that I just kept enough blood in it and rode it.

This January I traded up for an FXDB! It was the right thing to do. School and work eat up most of my time but if I'm not riding, I'm plotting my next mod. To date mods are: fwd controls kit by me. Built a packer bar and used an ammo can for a tool box (free is a good price). Found a stock black horn cover at the boneyard. Switched out the black front wheel for a chrome one (another boneyard find). Sanded the air box cover and used rattle cans to get the shine out of it.

The problem is I can't seem to keep my face out of the manual or any other book that will help me do more myself.

I'm new to Portland Oregon, don't know anyone here to help (yet) the local stealership does not have a friend in me. So I'm giving this a try and "I like it".

I'll thank you all in advance for helping me know my motor-harley better.

Not sure if I can do this here, but..... anyone in the portland area that wants to go for a ride look me up. I'm not much to talk to, I ride safe and hard in my seach for a better cup of coffee.

Hey Cooper,
A 500 mile day is fun. go for a 300 mile day, then change foot peg position, if that dont help, change the handle bar position, etc, until you get your bike set to your spec's.
I have a BMC 918 ST fat tire bike with drag bars and 45* rake. I took a 3 day weekend and did that... I got lucky and only installed footpeg "mustache pegs". or something like that... it re-positioned my feet forward 1-1/2" and out 1-1/2". and I went from a painful 300 mile day to a 500 mile day no problem. I even rode it from Santa Rosa California up to Portland, then over to Bend and then to Astoria, and back home....2000 miles altogether. the trip was 10 days, but was only on the bike 5 days of riding.
When I get back up there I will let you know.

As an AMA member, i can recomend the Rose City MC as a place to start to find someone to ride with.

Rose City Motorcycle Club

I ride with a lot of the AMA clubs here in Northern California. All good folks of all ages. I bet there are some mechanics and can help you.

Thank you.

I took a look at RCMC, looks like a busy group. I'll drop in on the next meet and check'em out.

If I can't get the answer I'll make one up, who knows might just screw up and get it right.
