| | Re: Harley finally!!!! Good luck with your new Harley and you might find you like the Sportster enough to keep it - a lot of other Harley riders on this forum have done just that.
Have fun and be safe with your new Harley. |

| | Re: finally!!!! I'm glad you got yourself a scoot, Reloder. That "Ride Free" program is great, but there is nothing second rate about that Sporty either.
I got out for a ride on my old XLX a couple of evenings on some rough, washboard, gravel roads that I would definitely not have enjoyed on the Ultra. I rode that thing like a dirt bike, playing with the throttle to keep the front end light in the loose gravel, getting the rear end going a little squirreley over the wash board sections. I got kind of lost for a while...didn't care, if the road turned into a goat path the Sporty would handle it. You just can't do that stuff with much ease on a big twin. I headed back to the house totally invigorated.

| | Re: finally!!!! Congrats on your new bike. I too will be picking up my first Harley ('95 Flhtc) in a couple of days. I tried and tried to talk myself in a Sportster. I just could not do it. I am coming off of a 1500cc Valkyrie so I really wanted a bigger bike. I have to ride 60 miles to work and back every day. I always have rain gear, cable locks, extra this and that with me when I ride. I like having bags for all that stuff. So I will be heading out to Caliente HD in San Antonio Tuesday to git ur done! It's only a 960 mile ride back...
There is a guy where I work that is selling an old '73 1200cc Sporty for like 3K or BO. I almost called...Almost. It even had a right side shift. That's too weird for me. But 2/3rds of my life is over. I went with the go big or go home motto.
Let's be careful out there! |

| | Re: finally!!!! Welcome to the forum Kempo. You will be very happy with all the space to carry things on the dresser, that 960 mile ride home will be a great opportunity to get acquainted with the bike.
Your friends Sporty is a 1000 as opposed to 1200 unless it's got an aftermarket kit in it, and yes...right hand shift can be awkward if your other bikes are the left hand variety. It's dependent on whatever you get used to. I had a nice 70 Triumph for 2 years but had too many close calls switching back and forth.

| | Re: finally!!!! You're going to fall in love with that Sporty. Due to medical bills, I had to sell my '07 last month. I'm missing that bike in a big way...
Welcome!
