Cool A New Old Guy says Hello from Illinois

Hi, I'm an old guy (66) who just got a new '09 Sportster 883 Custom. It's been 44 years since I had a bike (a 250 cc German Zundapp when I was in the army at Ft. Hood, TX) and I'm loving every minute of it. I took the Riders Edge course since it had been so long, and I'm glad I did. I live in the Chicago area, so riding will not happen as much as I'd like during the winter months.

The bike had 6 miles on it when it was delivered and now has 400 after about 7 weeks. The first couple of weeks, I didn't ride it hardly at all since I hadn't taken the course yet and didn't want to do anything stupid. And now, I've been on vacation in southern California for over a week. I'm missing it!

Awsome, aint it!!! gettin on a bike after a long time off.....
Welcome to the forum, great bunch here ready to help ya with anything.
Do you plan on doing the routine service on your new bike?
If your still here in Calif, you can always go rent a Harley for the day.

From the short time I've looked around here, I'm sure I'm going to like this place!

Probably will do the minor stuff, but I got the 5 year extended warranty and will get most work done by the dealer (City Limits in Palatine, IL). Been thinking of taking some of their maintenance seminars too.

I'd love to rent one but I'm lucky we could afford to come out here. 'sides need all the spare change to get mine the way I want it!

Welcome from Vegas, doorgunner. Hope I'm still riding at 66 (7 more years). You'll enjoy this site.

Ditto on the Welcome to the forum.
I'm from East Central Illinois, also 66 years old; and believe it or not had a '53 Zundap when I was a "kid". current ride's an '02 Lowrider.
Lots of guys here for just about any questions or help you might want.

Welcome from texas! Renting a harley when out of state without your ride is great advice. I've done it in CA & CO so far. (TX too for longer rides)

Welcome and congrats on the new bike. You have some great self control to buy a new bike and not ride the wheels off it right away, but good for ya taking the course. Enjoy the new ride and the forum.
