Default remorsefully a shovelhead freak..

hello
finally I meet people who understand the need for oil laden finger nails. I have read many of the threads and am glad that you all are here to give direction and answers to us who have found ourselves in a cesse pool of frustration and cuss-a-thons. As for me.. i just obtained my first vehicle. Extremely high childsupport and med insurance rendered me a bicyclist.... for 6 long years. Well with childsupport done on 2 of 3.. i did an illogical thing to the masses. I bought a motorcycle as my first motorized vehicle. But I Felt obligated to follow my heart. I like to fix things, so i bought a harley and to make matters better, i bought a 77 superglide in Aug, 09.... and been fixing and cussing ever since... and loving it. I have a great wife who is extraordinarily supportive. I do appreciate all the help. your responses to various problems have been extremely helpful. may god bless you all and my bike. especially my bike.. it sorely needs it...

Welcome to the forum, jeluce, I'm happy to see that the information has been helpful to you. If grease embedded under the fingernails was a crime I'd be in big trouble.
Congratulations, having been down a long hard road so to speak and able to get a nice Shovelhead. Having a wife who is supportive is wonderful, hopefully an enthusiastic passenger as well. Ride safe and God bless, Sincerely: Shovelmike.

Congratulations, jeluce. You've got yourself a classic motorcycle, and with proper maintenance, it will be a dependable ride. I've got a '77 FLH myself (going on 23 years with it), so I can relate to dirty fingernails. Don't be afraid to ask any kind of question, there's even a couple 'real' mechanics here! If you don't have a service manual, you REALLY need one, and a Spare Parts Catalog is an added plus. Tell ya what---- PM me with your address, and I'll mail you a CD with all my Shovelhead stuff on it.

Welcome jeluce. I'm new myself to this particular forum, and the proud owner of an '80 FLH. I have a couple other bikes, but the Shovel was my first, and don't feel too hopeless, or by yourself. If I had to only have one, well, uh...it would be the Shovel. john

Welcome aboard, Jeluce...glad to have you join us.

If a little grease/grime under your nails keeps you awake at night try scraping them on a bar of soap before you start working/playing

Or,hey...just get over it and have fun

Well... thanks for the big welcome,
It is as if I found a the perfect sanctuary on earth. I do appreciate the help... and am grateful... really grateful. My computer time is limited to a library... do have cell phone with internet capabities but it is slow and cumbersome. That does not go well with my type a personality but have been making due. EVOKEN... thanks for grime advised... I've been dipping my fingers in that old battery i had that bike... painful but were they ever clean. HAULIN... projects... id that a fancy word defined as takes all your spare time, money and mind. UNFKN.. your are so right... FLH80... i was lost and now I am found. I feel that same... they will have to bury with a shovel. BIGINCHER: the thought of you having a 77 flh for 23 long years brings tears to my eyes... if mine last 23 years it will be 55 years old... math skills, still there. That is encouraging. AS for the shovel head stuff that would be extremely helpful.. I do have at least a Clymer for specific era. SHOVELMIKE... it is all good... long roads build character... Again thanks.. I try to talk to my wife about the different problems but she more into latest lip gloss... Loves to ride though... and I do like the those glossed lips.
Thanks...
Joe

Keep babying the old Shovel and it will last, I've had my '73 Superglide for 22 years now, it's 36 yrs. old now. When it needs attention I use the best quality parts I can find.

I discovered by accident that if I scratch my head a lot it cleans the grease out from under my fingernails. Saves on Butch Wax too. Ha ha.
Just kidding.
Welcome to the forum. I wish I had a '76 Superglide. Maybe one day.
