I dn't know enough about it to say, but what little I have read and heard it is being done with taxpayers dollars so the rest of our investments don't get hurt even more.

But I also heard the government would get a big share of any profits in AIG in the future. Gotta wonder how that would work.

Yes, but let me qualify that answer.

I HATE that this is the solution... but I'm not sure I see any options given that there's no way a private institution would bail them out. It's just too risky an investment for them. The economic rammifications of AIG's collapse would be global, and they would be devastating.

I don't ever like it when the federal government has to meddle... but when it's necessary, it's necessary.

John 1:14

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD.

Companies should crumble and die if they are run poorly but when they start to carry as much infuence as AIG does its another game. Lets just prey other companies see it as they can be sloppy and can be saved the the govt.

I'm hoping the fact that Lehman Bros. is facing a painful death will nip that in the bud. Lehman SHOULD serve as a warning.

A reluctant yes. It's better when businesses sink or swim without government tampering, but the fallout would probably be too devastating to the economy.
