John 1:14

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD.

I made it. One thing I learned on this journey was that Mapquest estimated travel times are junk. My first leg of the trip was from Oceanside, CA to Santa Rosa, NM; Mapquest said it would take approximately 12 1/2 hours. 18 hours later I pulled in Santa Rosa. I wasn't cruising at 70 (had the bike on a trailer behind me), but still 5 1/2 hours is a huge difference. I missed my time hacks on every leg but that one was brutal.

Another thing I learned is that when you swipe your debit card at a gas pump and it says see attendant, you give the attendant your card and he turns on the pump, just move on down the road. Today my card was being declined all over the place. I knew better because I knew how much money in my account. I called my bank and there was a bunch of outstanding authorizations on my card from New Jersey. Well I'm in MS and my wife is in CA. It's the only explanation I have, someone wrote my card number while getting gas and then passed it off to a buddy or sold it to someone. Gladly I lost no money and turned off the card.

I was 40 minutes out from destination and had a major blowout. The tire was trashed, the sidewall completely blew out. That fix was 300 bucks I hadn't planned on spending.

I have some pictures that I took along the way that I'll post up after I download them. I hope everyone is well and getting in those last rides before the winter sets in. I think I'll be able to ride for a while down here. I was told it was getting cooler down here and I don't know what their idea of cool is, but when it's hitting the low 80's everyday that is not cool. It was cool in San Diego when I left upper 60's low 70's.

I'm a little peeved about my living situation down here. I have a room mate and definitely seems like someone I can get along with, my thought/opinion/theory on the subject is though; if they were going to give me a roommate then they should of moved my family out here and I could of lived with them. To top it off there are orders out there that specify how much square footage a military member in regards to his rank. Well I'm of a rank that if living in a barracks I rate a room to myself. I have quickly learned that this command definitely feels like they are above orders/instructions. It is what it is.

This is a tour I volunteered for, but from this day out every morning I am going to punch myself in the raisin bag for volunteering. I told myself when I was in Iraq that I was going N.A.V.Y (Never Again Volunteer Yourself), obviously I didn't learn. I'm just glad this tour is only 2 years vice the standard 3. Well enough of my ramblin'....

Glad your getting settled in... and I agree. It's rediculous that E-7 and above should have a roommate.

Google Maps and Yahoo Maps are significantly better re/ travel times.

Something I've learned. NEVER use your debit card unless you're getting cash from an ATM. Use your credit card and pay it off every month. They are MUCH more secure.

See I'm the opposite I hate using my credit card unless I have to.

To top the roommate situation, I guess they think we shouldn't be allowed to cook. Some of the rooms have kitchenettes in them, but from what I can see none of the enlisted E-7 and above have those rooms unless they are getting per diem. It should be the opposite, I mean that is what per diem is for, right? So I guess for the next year or so I get to spend my own money eating out 3 times a day. I'm not the only one in this situation, but everyone else seems to be alright with it.

Enough griping....Good to hear from ya BB!

Glad you made it Un. Yea none of those times are very accurate. not even on my GPS.

I guess the bright side is that you have your bike with you and new lands to explore and I guess internet access so you have a couple of mental escapes! Best of luck. Two years will be history before you know it.
