Default To Be An American

Written by an Australian Dentist

To Kill an American
You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone inPakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)

'An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish , Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian , or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return..

When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan

The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America

Some of them were working in the Twin Towersthe morning of September 11 , 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must.. Hitler did. So did General Tojo , and Stalin , and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

WOW!

Hey guys,

just a few words,

On 911 i was setting at home, getting ready for work, watching tv, started seeing the coverage, heard about the attack on the pentagon, which was where my brother-in-law was working(USAF) and immediately panicked and tried to reach him and my sister at home.

Come to find out my brother-in-law was working that morning and actually saved lives that morning by pulling people out of the flaming debris.

Fast forward about a year and i finally got my chance to help this great country of ours.

I now work for the tsa, department of homeland security. keeping the american traveling public safe day in and day out...as polite as the public will let us be and as helpfull as we can be.. but it is a thankless job and most people think of us as more of a pain and hindrence to their traveling.
We are their to make sure YOU, if you travel by airline and or train and bus arrive safely.
It is so funny (not really funny but lack of words, Strange?) how quickly americans forget about 911 and other times that we have been attacked.

So, Many americans are out there serving their country either in the military and or other govnt agencies, who's main job is to place themselves in danger so as to protect the american public, I, for one who also goes to work every day and faces the possibility of being blown up with every bag we open and or person we screen, want to thank all that serve for this great country of ours and fight and die to protect what we, as Americans, have created.

Thanks to All,

Wideglidebill.

Thanks Botz for that post, it certainly choked me up a bit, I guess a little of my maternal grandfather lives on in me..he loved to recite the preamble to our great Constitution, The Gettysburg Address, and other writings dear to his America loving heart, and could do so word for word ....until the tears would flow. I'm glad he's not here today to see what a mess things are in.

That Dentist is as adept at putting words on paper as he is with a drill.
Thanks wideglidebill for doing your very important job every day though often unnoticed and unappreciated.
The United States of America will survive the present crisis as she has great crises in the past, GOD bless America.

I used to work in NYC on the east side of the east river in Long Island City, Queens. I was working on 9/11 and was told of the first plane crashing into the towers. I went up to the roof and saw plane 2 with my own eyes hit the WTC. Back then I was heavily involved with the deployment of all the emergency equipment assigned to the recovery/rescue effort. The stories I could tell you guys about what went down are unbelievable. WideGlide Bill...I for one hate the inconvenience when flying but completely understand its necessiity. I do not ever want to see what I saw on and after 9/11. Thanks for keeping the skies safe Bill.. Botz

shovel and botz,

You are welcome, the both of you! I know it is a inconvienance, but it is a necessary one. before 911 the staffing at airport checkpoints was laughable, mostly staff from the actual airlines that flew you, talk about conflict of interest, now at most airports we have dedicated professional security, serious about the work they do and just think, before 911 bags were not even checked! So, the inconveniance was always there at the check points, just now it is done right.

ok, I will step off my soapbox now and let this forum ride!!!!!!

Nice post, it's a pleasure to speak about the good in this country for a change.
However an observation:
The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the sick, the worthless, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed.

....and that's exactly what we get.

I don't know who you are responding to, but for me the Australian was saying what many people around the world think, Americans have the best of everything. I for one have to agree. I also think that some Americans have forgotten how to think or do for themselves. We need to get back to a time when nothing could stop the American dream. When we knew how to accomplish anything we set our collective minds to.

As one of the many people who actually saw the planes hit I wonder what you think of the Hollywood morons like Rosie O Donnel that say the idea of planes hitting those buildings and taking them down is a joke and that it was a Government inside job done with explosives.
