Default 40 Years Ago Today

Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. This is a momentous day in our family's life as my Father worked for NASA at the time.

My Father was a radar guy and at the time there were no satellites so NASA had Radar Sites all over the world. Due to the fact that the Earth is mostly water it was necessary for NASA to have a fleet of 11 ships equipped with massive radars on them. When one of the Apollo missions was about to go they would sail off some where in the Pacific and set up to track the spacecraft. When one radar would be ready to loose contact with the craft there would be another to hand it off to. We as a family enjoyed the time my Father worked for NASA. NASA families were a very tight group. Just walking down Memory Lane 40 Years Ago Today. Please take the poll and post your memories about the space program and especially Apollo 11. I live in a NASA town (Huntsville AL) and worked on the Space Shuttle for a couple of years back in the mid 70's. As a kid, I remember our house shaking when they tested the Saturn 5 engines at Redstone Arsenal, and we lived about 20 miles away!

That ship was named after your town. The Saturn V was and still is "The Most Powerful Rocket Ever Made"!

Growing up in Fl. I remember as a kid watching the Atlas rockets lift off. I still watch all the shuttle lift-offs from my front yard. On a side note, I was watching a Pink Floyd documentary and learned that they were in the studio recording Dark Side of The Moon when man landed on the moon. How cool is that

That's OK there are people who believe Neil and Buzz were in a Hollywood Studio faking the landing!

My dad was Air Force. We were in Fayetteville NC in '69 I remember standing in the yard watchin the Launches. we didnt hear them but could see the little dot of light as it went up into space.

Then my little sister was born in '70 and I started believing in space aliens real quick.
